When do you see families doing photo ops other than the beach or weddings? As a photographer, the image looks better if the subjects are dressed similar. It looks nicer, and not just a snapshot of a bunch of people.

We took this one about 7 years ago. We were not dressed exactly alike, but similar (the girls had on the same dresses). Would this professional portrait look better, same, or worse if we just dressed in any old clothes? (Take note, this is a photo of the photo, not actual image).

This was not cheap, ran me about $2000 after sitting fees, package, and 28x42 canvas print framed.

Why didn't you just use a random pic to make your point?

Sitting fee was around $500

The package (other images) was $700
This image framed on canvas was $800

We got more than just this image

My family never once took a family pic (professional). But then again, I don't think we like each other very much...

You have never priced a TRUE professional photographer. They are not cheap.

A couple years ago, my wife wanted another family portrait. We find a deal on Groupon, $250, for sitting fees and digital images.

They fricking sucked. We got what we paid for.

Like I said, the image I posted above is a photo of the photo, so the quality is poor. The top part is cut off

The photographer for our wedding was a little more than that.
But it was a lot of pictures.

Just seems like a lot. I know they aren't cheap, but for what you paid, your family could have purchased a pretty nice camera and a good lens for more pictures.
