Yeah, I don't buy that, since boars are thriving
I'm not a zoologist but I'd be willing to be that, like the horse or cattle, originally the hog was located to one small region of the world. They are not suited for all ecosystems, obviously.
And the fact that feral hogs are taking over is not good. Without human intervention, they would destroy the ecosystem and eventually die off from starvation and overpopulation

I thought you had an informed opinion. I was honestly interested.

I can read, apparently you do not know what you wrote. To refresh you recollection you wrote, in part,:
You have a problem with the fact that people (including yourself) cannot kick a dog without repercussion. A fair inference is that you think there should be no repercussion and you or anyone else should be able to kick a dog whenever the spirit moves you to do so. You are an idiot and apparently a bully that feels people should be able to kick some animal that is smaller than them.

But you kick one damn dog and everyone freaks out and they want you arrested..... This chit is getting out of hand...

And you have to consider that 99.9% of all animals the ever existed are extinct.

If by small, you mean all of Europe, Asia, and North Africa, then I guess that's small. Yeah, they were introduced over here, Australia, and many islands on the South Pacific, but they all seem to be doing well. I can't imagine hogs really running out of a food source, since they'll eat almost anything. Yeah, they're doing tons of damage to their non-native ecosystems, but I still don't think even without their domestication that they'd be anywhere close to extinction. Worst case I think their population would still be about the same as wolves.

Not being a dick, but nothing you've said explains this statement.
quote:Thought you might have had some interesting info re the history of the pig.
Humans eating pigs is the best thing to ever happen to pigs. They'd be a marginal or even extinct species without us.

Well at its basis, it's because people have close emotional ties to dogs and cats. They are "family."
Also, on a more philosophical level, domesticated animals depend heavily on humans for their existence (in the same way that children depend on parents). Thus, mistreating an animal that "trusts" you and depends on you for it's very survival is more morally objectionable than hunting a wild animal that lives of its own volition.

If cats or dogs tasted like chicken and pigs, a lot less people would be pet owners

Western culture places special value on these two species as they are considered family pets or companions. Go to Vietnam and they are in the food chain.
Personally, I will take my dog over a number of people any day of the week. Given that she recently growled at my ex-wife, that essentially cemented her position in my household. And no, I didn't train her to do that one. It just happened. Ex actually raised her during puppyhood. I took over after ex left.
