i understand, but many of them speak french or at least their ancestors did. hence the reason I was curious about whether or not it crossed ethnic lines.

I'd have to ask my mom, who's probably forgotten, but there's a way of saying big and a way of saying small that both start with T.

My grandfather employed a couple of black guys, one had a nickname of T-Neg....which I used freely when I was very young, till my dad informed me that it wasn't wise to go around calling black folk T-Neg.
