Boomers-Gen X- Millenials in the workforce: Who would you hire?

Work ethic & values:
Driven,Workaholic-60 hr work weeks,Work long hours to establish selfworth and identity.
Long hours,Challenge authority,Crusading causes,Dislike conformity and rules,Heavy focus on work as an anchor in their lives, Loyal to the team,Question authority,Process oriented,Relationship focused at work,Strive to do their very best,Value ambition,Value collaboration,Value Equality,Value Personal,Value personal growth,Value teamwork,Value youthfulness, Want respect from younger workers

Balance, Work smarter and with greater output, not work longer hours. Eliminate the task, Self-reliant,
Want structure & direction Care less about advancement than about work/life balance,
Expect to influence the terms and conditions of the job, Work/family balance is important to them,
Enjoy work but are more concerned about work/life navigation, Have a work ethic that no longer mandates 10 hr days., Like a casual work environment Looking for meaningful work and innovation
Move easily between jobs and criticized for having no attachment to a particular job/employer Outcome oriented, Output focused,Prefer diversity, tech

Ambitious,What’s next?,Multitasking, Believe that because of technology, they can work flexibly anytime, anyplace and that they should be evaluated on work product-not how, when or where they got it done. Expect to influence the terms and conditions of the job Have a work ethic that no longer mandates 10 hr days. High expectations of bosses and managers to assist and mentor them in attainment of professional goals.
Want long-term relationships with employers, but on their own terms “Real Revolution”>decrease in career ambition in favor of more family time, less travel, less personal pressure. Goal oriented Looking for meaningful work and innovation May be the first generation that readily accepts older leadership Looking for careers and stability Mentoring is important to them
Obsessed w/ career developments

Work Liabilities
Expect everyone to be workaholics,Dislike conflict,Don’t like change, Challenge Authority of Traditionalists, Judgmental if disagree, Not good with finances ,Peer loyalty,“Process before results” ,Self-centered

Built “portable” resume, Cynical;skeptical, Dislike Authority, Dislike rigid work requirements, Impatient, Lack people skills, No long term outlook, Respect Competance, Mistrusts Institutions,Rejects rules

Distaste for menial work (they are brainsmart), Inexperienced, Need supervision,Need structure, Lack discipline, High expectations Lack of skills for dealing with difficult people, Impatient, Lack of experience,
Respond poorly to those who act in an authoritarian manner and/or who expect to be respected due to higher rank alone.

Says the guy who came in here ranting about the damn chart in the first place.

Oh well, water under the bridge. 20 year olds are different than 55 year olds, and they're both different than 75 year olds. Who knew?!?

I always expected video games to get more high tech and hi res as years went on, I never expected video games to be taken as seriously.. EG "gamers". I have a cousin who does just about nothing except play xbox, and he is intelligent and has informed opinions about what he's doing and it's like a sport to some people.

I have a buddy that plays all of the newest FPS for a living. He is online about 12 hours a day, every day. But he does get to set his own schedule and makes almost as much as I do in engineering.

I don't understand the whole "millenials are bad" theme. I go to work, get my work done in a timely fashion and respect my coworkers and bosses. I'm never late. If I have a complaint about my job I bring it up with my boss in a respectful way and I do not expect special treatment.

Everyone I know that fits into this generation is the same way, save one or two bad seeds that any generation would have.

Where does this entitled/spoiled mindset stereotype come from?

They aren't and neither are baby boomers. They're just different generations with a generational gap. No different than any other generational gaps in history.

Why do people always assume all millenials are hipsters?

You guys really need to rethink your definitions. I find it hard to lump in people born in the early 80s with people that have never known life without a cell phone.

I agree that there is a timeless age-old generation gap. I also believe that Millennials are significantly different in measurable ways. The fact that there is an almost built-in human tension between generations doesn't mean that Millennials don't have specific unique self-destructive characteristics that are easily observable. And the fact that they are the first generation in human history to live their lives out loud via social media may have a lot to do with that.

I also think that starting with The Baby Boomers and continuing onward there has been a general postponement of adulthood by each subsequent generation. A kid of 18 in 1945 was an entirely different than a kid of 18 in 2015. Affluence has prolonged adolescence . We are made of different stuff at age 25 than our forefathers.

Social media and parents who don't let them experience the ups and downs of life.

Why Are Millennials So Different?

The Internet: It was created with the intention to share important information across the globe in order to advance science, technology, and education. Now, sadly, you have to wade through 4 search pages of blogs, porn, and inaccurate information to find out useful information. (wikipedia isn't always correct because anyone can post or change it).

Lack of competition & the Self-Esteem Movement: Millennials were born after the fall of the USSR. There is no "them" for millennials to compete against. No "them" for us to be better than.
The self esteem movement in the 90's is what caused the lack of drive and ambition of millennials. The "It's ok to lose" mantra the movement pressed home. Everyone gets a trophy, because hurt feelings encourage suicide (ikr).

The Jones: So many parents ruin their kids because they don't want their kid to be the only one who doesn't have "X". (Under Armor, iPhone, Newest Game Console, HD TV,etc.) It creates a "follower" mentality that can grow as they get older. Also, kids get a lot of these things without it being a reward for something like good grades. There's also the, "If I let them have it then they'll leave me alone." logic. So a kid grows up learning that if they whine long enough, they will get what they want. There is a whole fricking generation of people at voting age who do this.
This is also why social media is so bad today. Liberals love to talk and usually have unimportant jobs (if any). So social media is ripe for them. That's why you "hear so much about" something. Normal people are working or going to school and don't have time for that shite. Yet we are let to believe whatever said is a big issue because 1 million people viewed, liked, shared, or commented on it.

All in all, it's the Idiocracy theory at work. The dumb and lazy out populate the smart and ambitious until we are a nation of idiots.
