Its genetics and supported by science

Mean lean muscle mass (kg)

black males = 65.6kg

White males = 62 kg

Hispanic males = 59.9 kg

Asian males = 59.6 kg

Indian males = 53.3 kg

"The researchers found that South Asian men had at least 3 kg less of skeletal muscle than Chinese and European men. South Asian women also had less muscle mass than their counterparts of other ethnicities — by at least 2 kg."

Asian Indians tend to have more abdominal adipose tissue, less lean body mass (LBM) and higher magnitude of insulin resistance (IR) despite falling in the normal range of body mass index (BMI) [1]. The high value of waist hip ratio in Asian Indians may be due to less lean mass of the hips and greater fat at the levels of waist [2]. Another study showed that Asian Indian men have low muscle mass and 30% more total body fat (BF) than other ethnic groups [3]. Low lean mass is also evident in Asian Indian neonates as compared to white Caucasian neonates [4].

South asians (INDIANS) have the weakest grip strength of all people

HGS values differed among individuals from different geographic regions. HGS values were highest among those from Europe/North America, lowest among those from South Asia, South East Asia and Africa, and intermediate among those from China, South America, and the Middle East. Reference ranges stratified by geographic region, age, and sex are presented. These ranges varied from a median (25th–75th percentile) 50?kg (43–56?kg) in men <40?years from Europe/North America to 18?kg (14–20?kg) in women >60?years from South East Asia. Reference ranges by ethnicity and body-mass index are also reported.

If I went by tone of this thread I'd say because we are smarter that the rest of you lot and don't waste time on sports.

But the real reason is because the education system in India is way more intense than literally anywhere else. It is easier for some to get into Ivy League schools here than getting into the better schools there. You barely have any time to play after school work and your parents actively discourage you from sports because your chances of making it are miniscule. They'd much rather you devote the same time to studying and get a "real" job. Also the society emphasizes the value of a good education more than anything else. Being smart is very important there.

Also, damn there are some ignorant and racist motherfrickers here.

All my sources were peer reviewed studies. Don't know how that is ignorant. You can read the studies yourself. If you disagree with the fact that indians are at a physical disadvantage please provide some peer reviewed studies to refute my assertions

This post is awesome, and I agree with every word.

I was going to say that I know plenty of second-generation Indian-American dudes in the States who are tremendous athletes (probably, on median, better athletes than the white guys I know) - but they grew up surrounded by an American diet and an American emphasis on athletics as opposed to what their parents grew up around. One of the best basketball players I've ever played with was an Indian Muslim guy who was asked to walk on at IU; he grew up in Texas.

It's pretty much all cultural emphasis and diet. Granted, you'd know better than I (I know mostly Punjabi and Gujarati dudes), but their parents' (the first generation's) diet is absolutely terrible for developing an athletic body. It's way too high in carbs and sugar and way too low in animal protein; that's just kind of how Indian food is. As a white dude raised in the States, I start to crave beef and bacon by day 2 of any Indian wedding I ever go to. Animal protein as a youngster is good for physical development.

The cultural emphasis cannot be understated, either. Indian parents generally do not give a frick how well you do in sports. I'd go so far to say that, even in the States, most of my Indian friends only played sports (many even at a very high level, especially in tennis, golf, basketball, and even baseball) in order to boost their college resumes. Again, my experience is largely limited to Punjabi and Gujarati people, so that does not apply to everyone on the sub-continent. My Keralan friends are a bit different in a lot of this, as a caveat.

Not directed at you. Genetics may be a contributing factor. However India is a ridiculously genetically diverse country and there are other factors here that are larger contributors.

High carb diet, Economics and most importantly very little sports or exercise when you're growing up. Indians make damn good cricketers and cricket, regardless of what TD will have you believe, is a ridiculously demanding game. If it was merely genetics there would be no good cricketers in India. They play cricket because it's the only sport that gets on the telly and the only one that has the economic base that may be a viable source of income. My $0.02.

Usually I'm the one to make ignorant blanket statements like this.

Youve never seen Jai Alai.

I was an intern for Air India in New Delhi during college. The Injuns love it.

At any given body fat mass value, South Asians had significantly less lean mass than each of the three other groups after adjustment for age, height, humerus breadth, smoking status, physical activity, and diet.
