This is more questionable than toys. A couple of pieces of foam egg crate and a cover for $80? I mean WTH?

In my experience, items are priced at what people are willing to pay for them.

Every now and then you can catch a good sale, but my little frickers will still lay on the floor and only use the edge of the bed for a pillow. I don't know why I keep buying them.

I have 2 dogs and 3 dog beds from Costco which are strategically placed around the house. Paid under $30 for each one. I have a Great Dane and a lab mix. The beds are big enough for the Great Dane and apparently comfy because they are always laying on those damn things.

Home Goods has good prices

Edit: I agree with you. They are nothing but recycled old mattresses. It's basically free filler for them

as oweo says, the worth of anything is whatever the market will bear.

since most people treat their dogs better than they treat their kids, they are willing to spend a hell of a lot on a dog bed...as a result, dog beds cost a hell of a lot.

Used to go through beds like every 3-6 months for our basset hound. Have had one we bought from Target for 2.5 years now. Probably cost $20-$30.

I just go buy big sections of fleece from the fabric store when they put it on sale and put them in my dog's sleeping spot. She rather lay on hard wood or carpet than any damn bed I bought her. Throw a blanket on the ground and she is like a pig in slop.

I am being harsh... but ya, Petsmart and places like it are expensive as hell.
