The stigma is almost dead. This could be a great place to talk about things. It may even be therapeutic. So, what do you suffer from, treatment, experiences, etc.

Major Depressive Disorder: diagnosed in early '90's. I've been on so many different medications that I can't remember them all. For the past 10 years, it's been Prozac in one dosage or another. I've never taken a medication that relieved the depression, just stabilized me. I've come to the conclusion that I'll probably never get past this. It has ups and downs. I function quite normally, for the most part. I'd rather not do much outside of work. I'm not very social and would prefer to just stay home. There are times, though, when I have to argue with myself just to get out of the bed/off the couch. I hate it, but it is what it is.

Anxiety/Panic Disorder: Diagnosed a few years after the depression. This one almost got me. Spent a few days in the hospital on suicide watch. Nothing like having a police officer go with you to the restroom. I was prescribed Xanax then, and am still taking it today. It mostly manifested itself in panic attacks (boy, howdy, they're a kick if you've never had one). It also affected me physically in other ways. For example, it once took me over 30 minutes to eat one scrambled egg. I couldn't make myself swallow it. Had to chew until it was practically liquid.

Enough for now. Join in.

Undiagnosed, but I deal with depression symptoms cyclically.

I had/have anxiety. It was mostly situational at the time. I was on meds for maybe 6 months and it was the lowest dose you could get, it was probably more placebo than anything. I did cognitive behavioral therapy and learned to control it. I now have a panic attack randomly once a year or when I think about the Reds roster.

The stigma is not almost gone. That is where you are sadly mistaken. The responses you will get in this thread will tell you all you need to know.

People (especially men) are still afraid to admit they suffer from mental illness.

I'm a white Christian heterosexual male that likes guns and freedom. Some people claim that's enough to declare me crazy

I love mental illness (an actually medical condition) is still taboo, but homosexuality is not thanks to a giant push by society. Tells you where our priorities are.
