I just feel I have to go with Washington. So many times in the face of defeat, he kept the war going.

It depends on what you mean by best soldier,
1. Who I want in a foxhole with me
A. Audie Murphy
B. Sgt. York
2. Who I want leading me
A. george s patten
B. Andrew Jackson

I'd don't knke if he's the best soldier, but Patton had some of the biggest balls

The greatest ones died on the battlefield.
They chose to do something that assured their death even if successful; hopefully while saving a few of their buddies lives in the process

John Basilone. It was an honor to play on John Basilone Memorial Field in high school. Read up on this Medal of Honor recipient. He was also in the Pacific version of BoB.

Probably some poor soldier killed on the battlefield, buried with Unknown over his grave and was never credited with all the honor he deserved. There were many like him.

Someone we’ll never hear of, which is probably best for all involved.

Lauri Torni
He REALLY hated communists
Desmond Doss
He saved more people than he killed on the frontlines.

Lauri Allan Törni (28 May 1919 – 18 October 1965), later known as Larry Thorne, was a Finnish–American soldier who fought under three flags: Finnish, and later German when he fought the Soviets in World War II, and American (where he was known as Larry Thorne) when he served in US Army Special Forces in the Vietnam War. Törni died in a helicopter crash during the Vietnam War.
Desmond Doss

Desmond Thomas Doss (February 7, 1919 – March 23, 2006)[1] was a United States Army corporal who served as a combat medic with an infantry company in World War II. He was twice awarded the Bronze Star Medal for actions in Guam and the Philippines. Doss further distinguished himself in the Battle of Okinawa by saving 75 men,[a] becoming the only conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Second World War.[b] His life has been the subject of books, the documentary The Conscientious Objector, and the 2016 film Hacksaw Ridge.
