Agreed, but let us also not forget that those who are Christian are not without sin. Rather they are in a struggle against sin. To sin does not make a person immediately eligible for hell, but to not recognize sin for what it is and to not repent is.

Some of my favorite non-religious figures to study:
Teddy Roosevelt
Marco Polo
Napoleon
James Madison
Alexander the Great

Only lived 33 years
Died a Virgin
Literally never partied
Performed fewer miracles than Elon Musk

Not even in the top 20. Just from the Bible alone David, Paul and Job were all more interesting

Jesus by far….. but king David and the apostle Paul both are the closest second.

Take away the belief (the belief, mind you) that Jesus offers Christians eternal life and no one in 2022 would give a shite about anything he said.

The truth is we don’t need Jesus. That’s been proven. Our ancestors managed to make it from the cold, nightmarish hell of ice age prehistoric times all the way to Greek, Egyptian and Roman times without a damn Jesus to cling to because they were some tough motherfrickers who didn’t know they were missing out on air conditioning and didn’t know they were supposed to have Jesus as psychological crutch in hard times. All those guys knew was survival. And we pussies with our cars and houses and grocery stores , etc., can’t make it through the night without some Jesus? Give me a frickin’ break.

Fundamentally, this is not a complicated world. I have said it before. You only need four things:

1. You need some mental toughness. This is sometimes a problem because religion instills a psychological need for something beyond ourselves to make it through the day. If everyone were raised to believe in themselves and that we’re all going to die one day and you’re just going to have to deal with that, we would be tougher.

If you never tell a kid there’s a Santa, he won’t cry if there are no presents waiting for him on 12/25.

2. You some intelligence. You have to be able to figure some things out.

3. You need to realize that man is a social species and is better off working together than going every man for himself and that social structure needs to implemented, respected, and change with the times.

4. You need to find something you find fulfilling. Thanks to our ancestors, that’s a hell of a lot easier for us in 2022 than it was 10,000 years ago.

That’s all you need. No religious mumbo jumbo about worshiping and appeasing deities.

Haven’t read thread, but Thomas Jefferson would be high on my list. What a brilliant mind.

I visited the Hemingway museum in Key West and there’s so much testosterone in the walls that I grew a thick mustache in the first 5 minutes of just being inside that house.

Considering the fact that I’m a woman, I was pretty impressed.
