Kobe Bryant says people like him don't have true friends, just 'like minds'

He says it's impossible for him to be a "great friend" because he's so single-minded in his focus on work and has no free time.

KOBE: I have "like minds." You know, I've been fortunate to play in Los Angeles, where there are a lot of people like me. Actors. Musicians. Businessmen. Obsessives. People who feel like God put them on earth to do whatever it is that they do. Now, do we have time to build great relationships? Do we have time to build great friendships? No. Do we have time to socialize and to hangout aimlessly? No. Do we want to do that? No. We want to work. I enjoy working.

What a waste of an existence. His main goal is to be self centered so he can be a better basketball player?! Friendship is essential to the soul.

Why do people hate him so much? Is it because he wants to play basketball as long as he can and make as much money as possible? Isn't that what we strive for in our daily lives(minus the basketball)? He's earned his salary. He may be a bit of a narcissist but who cares.

This isn't fair - Kobe actually has some G-d given talent and has some reason to be egotistical.

Kanye lives in an echo chamber and has convinced a few people - somehow (maybe this is his talent, galactic-scope bullshitting?) that he has talent, when what he does requires little, if any, literal, actual, measureable talent.

I'd respect him more if he hadn't raped that girl.

Pretty torn on what to believe in this one.

I don't respect him because he was married, but I'm not so sure as if this was rape or the girl wanted that money.

Not even close. Kobe is (arguably) top 5 in his craft and spends all his time honing that craft. Kanye is just a narcissist.

Getting paid $23,000,000 to play a game. Not so sure I'd call that working in the typical sense of the word.

The game of basketball is an artificial construct of rules, I agree that I personally have much more respect for Kobe from a professional standpoint.

Kanye's field of work is a much more subjective realm.

All this being said they are both boors. Wealthy boors, but boors.

Well if that's the case I wish I had as little talent as Kanye has.

As for Kobe, hearing him say is kind of sad. What's to keep him from blowing his brains out once the game is done with him, which is pretty much right now.
