A. Funk & Wagnalls
B. World Book
C. Britannica
I felt the Britannica model was unsurpassed for its time. Their door to door sales team was consummate and knowledgeable.

World Book is what we had at home....but I remember when I go to Jr High they had a newer version of Britannica that I liked better but maybe only because it was new....honestly I can't remember.
Crazy my 3 year old probably won't ever know what an encyclopedia is....we certainly won't ever own any

Our family had Britannica and I think our school had World Book.
I remember doing projects for school and they had conflicting information
But I choose Britannica because I'm pretty sure I'll inherit those to put in my study to collect dust when I'm older and pretend like I use those and not Wikipedia on my iPhone 38s.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I remember my World Book C volume listing the health benefits of smoking cigarettes.

I think we had Comptons... the red and black ones. A couple of years ago my mom was cleaning out old stuff and asked me if I wanted them. I told her no... wish I would have kept them now. I spent many hours reading about shite in those encyclopedias growing up.
I remember one of the books had an anatomy section where it started with the skeleton and had all these transparent pages that you would stack on top of the skeleton page to show all the parts of the body... muscles, organs, blood vessels, etc. So awesome.
