If we ever do experience a global pandemic that actually has the power to kill us all (fingers crossed) or if we die off some other way which animal takes over? Another primate? Gorillas? Maybe a big cat like lion or a tiger? Or would it be an underdog like a scrappy little honey badger? Pack of wild pitt bulls?

Or will nature just naturally balance itself out? Would any endangered species die off without having humans help protect their species?

I think it would probably be another primate. I'd put my money on macaques since they already seem to be taking back parts of Thailand, but I'd be rooting for the tigers from heaven.

Bears. Best combination of intelligence, strength, and agility.

Ursids with sentience would be pretty cool to see.

Chimps. Those fricks are planning something. Just look at those dark, beady little eyes.

Cats. Big, small, domestic, wild...they always look like they’re planning to kill you and eat you.

There would be no #1 globally, it would be different answer in different locales. Some places it would be the tiger, in others the crocodile, some the gorilla etc. Nature would continue operating largely just like it does now.

On an evolutionary time scale I would say that either Orcas or some other type of dolphin would eventually return to the land and become the next intelligent being running the planet lol.
Seriously though the answer is some type of marine mammal would eventually rule!!!
