All these talks about statues coming down has me thinking about this.

Lee might be an obvious candidate. There seems a lot of debate about Edison. Christopher Columbus seems to generate a lot of controversy as well.

So which historical figure do you find is consistently depicted inaccurately in modern interpretations?

Well with so many of his teaching and writings torn away and we were left to what Peter & Paul and the Vatican felt was important, I suspect Jesus' real life and teachings are for the most part unknown to us all.

I think he was probably a pretty laid back guy.

Mao Zedong was way worse than what is taught in schools across the country.

Genghis Khan, albeit ruthless, is one of the most important geniuses in world history.

The Persian Empire, and Cyrus the Great, should be revered instead of villianized in terms of efficiency of government in early civilization.

In terms of early American history, we underestimate the importance of Thomas Jefferson and overestimate the importance of George Washington.

I get your point about the importance of other Founding Fathers, but Washington could've taken Congress by force at the end of the war but voluntarily gave up command to the civilian government.

Perhaps setting the greatest single precedent in American history.

Yep. And his first Vice President, Garner, had once criticized Hoover for "leading the country down a path to socialism"

FDR was just a continuation of Hoover's bullshite and was one of the key cogs in the bullshite we have today.

Woodrow Wilson
Lincoln (if only because he wanted to set the slaves free- and send them back to Africa)

I'd put King George up there too. Parliament had far more say over the American war for independence than most Americans recognize.

Probably Pontius Pilate as well. Lots of unknowns about him.

Teddy Rosevelt. He makes John McCain, Hillary Clinton, and George Bush look like pacifists.
