I don't think going up around right where it turns to Allen would be much more than that, but admittedly I'm guessing a bit. Also, maybe Rowlett? That's a nice little suburb and it would probably be right around that 30 minute mark.

If you're leaving at 6:30AM, you're just talking strictly how far you are from somewhere. Traffic will be really minimal, you'll be doing the speed limit (or how fast you choose to go over) the whole way. 5:30PM, is a different story. Going all the way up to prosper would be hell. Just for reference, I went to an event at Toyota Stadium for an event, I left work at 4:30 or so to try to beat some of the traffic and it still took me about an hour and fifteen to get there.
FWIW, I live right around where you'll be working, I live about 5 miles north of downtown of 75.

I'm off the North tollway, around University park

I have lived in Addison, Plano, Frisco, and McKinney. McKinney is the best of that bunch, in my opinion

Prosper, Frisco and Mckinney would be no go’s for me based on your job location and how long you claim to want to be in a car each day.
I would avoid anything south of Dallas too. Not worth driving around to find newly gentrified areas amongst all the poors that live down there.
If you really have a seven figure budget then HP/UP/PH would be great. Basically as you go “out” from there you start dropping in price but you can get a good amount of house for mid to high 6 figures in east Farmer’s Branch and Lake Highlands. Addison, Richardson and Rowlett should have more than enough affordable options (mid 6 figures and lower) and still keep you close to work.

I wouldn't go too far north of Bush in West Plano. Great area and not too far from work.
How old are you? Married, kids? If you're wanting fun stuff, events, and good restaurants, I'd go with the Lakewood recommendation. It's an awesome area, right by the lake, and super close to the best areas to do stuff. The lake has all kinds of outdoors stuff to do, country club there if that's your thing, anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes to knox Henderson, deep ellum, lower greenville, uptown, bishop arts, design district, and oak lawn so you can go almost anywhere fast. It's older so the houses are nice and the lots are big.

In order based on what you have said. These would be mid 6 figures houses on the small side.
MStreets
Lakewood
Lake Highlands
Then go up to plano and Allen. Lucas is great too once you get up there... Prosper is too far.
I commuted from Allen to downtown for 18 years...that was an hour at rush hour. Problem is once you get past the first three above my experience tells me you might get a 30 minute commute 5/7 times in the early am. 1/7 in the afternoon if you are lucky. Great places to live all around though. PS. No to mesquite.

Well, I’d avoid oak cliff. I don’t know Dallas well, but there are rap songs about being from Oak Cliff. That should be enough of a hint.

North Oak Cliff is one of the most desirable in town areas of Dallas. You'll pay 350k for a 3/1 400 for a 3/2 and pushing a million for larger houses in Kessler Park. The area around Kiest park is an up and coming area and still affordable (275k) for young people and very safe. I have a single female friend that has lived over there for 7 or 8 years with zero problems. The bad areas of Oak Cliff are way south around Camp Wisdom and red bird mall or east of I-35 near the zoo.

I wish Dallas had a little better weather. So many IT job openings and so many people I know have moved or are moving there. As far as I can tell it's got by far the best job market in the Texas if not the entire South. Austin can only compete if you're a programmer.
Anyway, it's going to boil down to your price range and how ballin you want your house to be. The lesser suburbs of Dallas are still good by most standards. The nicer suburbs in north Dallas are getting expensive AF due to the large influx of F1000 offices.

You both can be right

Oak Cliff, located in Southwestern area of Dallas, TX (also known as The OC, O.C.T., and The Cliff). It's famous for it's regular local news coverage due to violent crimes and acts of poverty, but this is a huge misrepresentation. While there are parts of Oak Cliff where looking at the wrong person in the wrong way will get you beat up, stabbed, or shot, overall it's an okay place to live.

Compared to? I like it better than Louisiana's weather. Don't get the rain what seems like everyday in Dallas like in South La. There's less humidity as well. Both are hot as shite so that's a wash. My only real complaint is the wind always blows here, which isn't a big deal I just wish I could play a round of golf sans wind one weekend.

I don't know man. It seems like Dallas has all the cons of Louisiana weather but has worse/longer winters.
A pro is less rain, sure. I'll give it that but I'm not sold on the humidity part. It seems humid as hell in Dallas. It's all about dew points unless you think 70% humidity in California feels the same as 70% humidity in Louisiana.
Weather and bad drinking water aside, Dallas has a ton going for it though.

I live in Frisco and it’s about 30 min to downtown at 6:30 am.
I would stay away from Garland and Mesquite May get more bang for your buck but the drive can be a bit much.
We liked West Plano too but decided on Frisco for the neighborhood and schools.

Dallas is a shithole. They can't figure out how to complete interstate construction at all. It's a mess.
I just got back from Dallas and they have the best roads in the United States.
I wish my grandfather would have invested in concrete in D/FW 50 years ago.

These do not compute. Have you lived in both? I have and one of the first things I noticed when I moved here is the great doesn't hit you in the face like it does in Louisiana. Don't get me wrong, it's hot as shite, but you can actually feel yourself getting hot instead of immediately start sweating like in Louisiana.

The only con about Dallas weather is a few weeks like this week where is ~48 in the morning and 70 in the evening. If you even want to call that a con.
Tornados wash out because NOLA has Hurricanes.
We get snow sometimes (who doesn't like snow!?)
It's only retarded hot from June to September. Usually, by October the weather starts to act like it is now.

I moved to the M Streets area in early July and have loved it. Houses have some character, there is plenty to do within a mile or two, and the commute is very reasonable to most places in the city. Takes 25 minutes for me to commute to the Farmers Branch area and 10-15 minutes for the gf to commute downtown. Also close to white rock lake which is a very underrated area imo. Greenville, Knox/Henderson, and Deep Ellum are also a short uber away and have some fantastic bars and restaurants.
