OT Experts:

I'm looking for anyone with experience on college football betting.

I've always predicted games & outcomes but never officially through a third party.

I'm doing some research now on how it all works. Does anyone know of a good resource that you've used?

Also, what sites are most popular? Is there 1 site that most betters go to?

Thanks!

Thanks Walt.

Quick example question:

LSU -6 $115
McNeese +6 $105

The $115 / $105 is what it costs to make a bet, correct?

How is the profit generated? Maybe a brief explanation?

Usually something will be like -110 meaning you have to bet 110 to win 100. But you can bet any proportion you want(ie 55 to win 50).

I use Betonline and the deposit/cashout is very nice and they have good lines. That said they spam the shite out of me with emails and sometimes even texts or snail mail.

I found a better resource now explaining that. Thanks!

So if I bet $55 to win $50, are there typically any other fees associated? Or my bet is my bet??

1st and I cannot stress this enough, use the search function.

2nd there is a weekly betting thread on the MSB.

3rd Welcome to the world of sports betting/ being a scumbag. Its a lot of fun.

I use bookmaker. I have used BetUS and 5Dimes in the past and this is my favorite.

No your bet is your bet. Win and you get your 55 bet plus your 50 in winnings back. Lose and you lose your 55.

Although most sites will have a transaction fee of some sort when you withdrawl/deposit. And read the terms on any free promotions they are offering because they can be misleading.

Thanks all!

New to this & didn't use the search function. Will in future.

One last question:
If I bet today, could the spread change by Saturday morning?

Is it best to wait until Saturday?

Yeah it could change at any time before kickoff in your favor or against you but what you bet is what you lock in.

Vegas is on top of it and lines will be pulled before major news(injuries or such) even goes public.

If the spread changes, your bet stays the same. It's not like they'll change your wager because it changed later. That could be good or bad for you, depending on what happens in the days leading up to the game. By the way, if you haven't signed up yet you should totally use my referral code for bovada...

I don't think you should be betting if you have all of these basic questions.

So I'll be your bookie.

I don't think I follow your logic ;)

No knowledge of betting = no knowledge of college football?

Maybe I'll let you be my booker.

We bet in Nevada frequently. To bet the money line I would look for something better than 110. Otherwise taking the points is a safer bet. I hate parlays, my husband loves the teaser cards but statistically parlays are a losing game. Odds change but typically I like the betting on futures far in advance but on weekly games I bet when it is convenient. I have never cashed out an online bet....have heard horror stories of not getting paid though. Have fun! I love sports betting and wish it was legal everywhere.
