I'd come out and meet you and 480 for drinks but sadly I work Wednesday night. Enjoy your stay in Scottsdale, it's pretty awesome out here.

And Tucson isn't THAT bad, Mt Lemmon is awesome if you have time to drive up it(they have snow up at the top in the winter). I lived there for 3 months...it just doesn't have as much to do as here.

he isn't in such a bad spot, being close to la encantada. though if i were staying in the foothills i'd opt for the loews ventana canyon.

OP, short of driving up to mt lemmon you could take skyline/sunrise all the way out to sabino canyon and go north, then go into sabino canyon park. the catalina foothills are a beautiful drive and there is great hiking (and even a little tram tour) through sabino canyon that is worth it IMHO.

like nurse said, tucson isn't bad. but it gets a bad rap because it looks like a truck stop from the interstate. if you have time hit up bk dogs or el guerro canelo for sonoran hot dogs. guadalajara grill or el charro for good mexican. cafe poca cosa for new wave mexican. raging sage for kick arse coffee and pastries. those were my typical haunts before moving to phx.

nurse, a few years back I spent some time in phoenix and you recommended some place that was very cool with good food and beer...seems like it was down that street named camelback or something like that...do you remember what that resturant was?...

Hmmm...trying to remember. Camelback is a LONG road though. Did you go there? What kind of food?

And really...there are SO many good restaurants in Scottsdale and Phoenix. Still several I have yet to check out myself and I've been here 9 years. I always suggest The Yardhouse to people visiting. But it's actually a national chain. And it's in Fashion Square Mall on Camelback so that could be it.

LINK

Again...it's a national chain but there isn't one in every state so it's def worth checking out if you have never been to one.

Stay in Old Town Scottsdale. Can easily walk to several bars and restaurants. At night there are cute chicks driving golf cart taxis as well in that area so you can always catch a ride with them.

There are golf carts that will take you anywhere in town for $5.

Eat at Cowboy Ciao. Start off with the Stetson Salad. Entrees are all fantastic. One of my favorite restaurants anywhere.

480 and I mentioned this place in the thread already but Kelly's at Southbridge is a cool bar to go to in Old Town. They serve food as well, although I've never eaten there.

There are several places that are a more club atmosphere in Old Town, Kelly's isn't like that. Very nice atmosphere in there. Great place to go to start the night at and then decide where to go from there. OP if you use the golf taxis you can ask them for suggestions of where to go. We did that one night and the guy took us to some place that was just what we were in the mood for that night. There is a club/bar for every vibe really in Old Town.

Yeah Yardhouse is my favorite chain restaurant. They have such a huge variety of food that you can find something on the menu that you will like. And if you are a beer person you will be in heaven(although their martini menu is awesome as well).

OP...if you go to The Yardhouse...their mac n cheese is AMAZING!

this is why people think phoenix has no culture. they visit and we send them to the yard house to be honest though, it's hard to make these kinds of recommendations to people because the valley is so big and things are so spread out. and there are so. many. fricking. chains.

but instead of yard house for beer we should be sending people to brat house or ohso or papago or flanny's or boulders on broadway or angel's trumpet or cartel (yes, cartel has beer - damn good beer in addition to coffee).

Go to the San Diego Bay restaurant in Guadaloupe - this is just south of Tempe. Absolutely amazing and authentic Mexican seafood. It's where the locals go.

I actually have spent a lot of time in Tucson. I work for a medical company that used to be based in Oro Valley.

I like the Loews but as I was saying earlier, I like walking to different places for food/drinks etc.

I have never stayed near campus so figured I would give it a shot tomorrow night.

I know what you mean. But...you have to admit Yardhouse is good.

But yes, those other places are all great suggestions. I'm not a big beer person but I've always heard those places were good. I've been to Papago before and that place has such a cool laid back vibe to it. Also liked that you have this massive beer fridge to basically pick from and can just go to bar with your selection, bartender pop the top, you pay and drink there. We had fun one night playing some of the board games there. I do like Papago Orange Blossum.

I was in Chandler for a bachelorette party thing and we started night at The Perch Pub....they brew their own beer there as well. Cool lil place. Also been to San Tan Brewery in same area as well, another decent place.

I got lost coming back from Ikea once and somehow ended up in Guadalupe. Felt like I must have accidentally crossed the border and not realized it Freaking chickens running everywhere in the road, run down looking shacks everywhere.

Never been there. Sorry I'm no help. Never heard anything bad about it though. 480 may know more about it.
