There aren't a ton of Fortune-"any number" companies in the NOLA area, and insurance, tuition, and sales taxes are high. So how can people afford the $600 to $1 million or so home price tags in Lakeview?

It's systemic racism and White privilege. Generational wealth has been passed down to ensure the exclusion of People Of Color in that neighborhood.

That's why feral hood rats are reduced to burglarizing cars after sunset. Those young entrepreneurs are just making their attempt for equity and social justice.

The people I know buying those homes are primarily medical, some attorneys. Contrary to the OT beliefs, there are white collar jobs in NO. And not everyone wants to, or can afford, to live in Old Metry.

The fact that you don’t understand this proves you’ll never be rich.

They work 6-10x harder than people with $100k houses, duh.

My FIL grew up in Lakeview. There's some community center there that back in the 50s and 60s there were social events there quite often and you could only attend if you lived in Lake view or were invited by a resident.

Just think how many doctors, and staff that the Saints and Pelicans employ alone. Now think the Salary of a Tulane, UNO, Professors. Now think how many hospital are in New Orleans, think doctors, lawyers, administrators. shite the guys that sell t-shirts Bourbon are worth more than you’ll ever be. New Orleans has money and it’s easy to make because of how “small” that city is compared to other major metros. One good idea and an Uptown Jew to invest your money, bam you’re a millionaire.

Why pay to live in Lakeview when eastern Metairie is basically the same thing but with far less crime, functioning streets, lower utility costs, etc?

Yep.
And also every plant/refinery/energy/construction company with a few hundred employees or more has at least 6 execs/managers making $275k+. So that's another few hundred Nola area residents who can afford a $600k house.

They go into massive debt and give up any discretionary income solely so they can have "New Orleans" on their address.

And guess what? No one is impressed

When I was a banker in Lakeview, it was normally young professionals who sunk every penny into buying a Lakeview home. Plus two new cars that are financed and maybe some kids in private school. All these people are cash poor and pretty close to over leveraged.

Basically they are burning through money to live on a street that is so destroyed and potholed that it looks like downtown Baghdad, with the possibility of being carjacked.
