Scotlandville has always been black, that's why Southern is near there

The pole, or red stick that was planted in the ground was located very near to where Southern is now. It was about 30' tall.

My dad grew up on Christian St. and it has always been a mixed area. I still have the old house. Been in the family since 1936. Eden Park area has been black since the 50's also. East Blvd. use to have a lot of Italian business's. My dad said you started seeing a lot of light skinned blacks back in the day. Make your own connection.

South Baton Rouge and Scottlandville

Most went to McKinley HS, and Scottlandville HS. I believe Captiol HS came along in the late 60's.

St Francis Xavier had a high school for a very short period of time, but was torn down when I-10 came thru. The elementary school is still there.

Scotlandville mostly. I knew plenty of people that lived in NBR. One off of Evangeline in mid eighties.

Haha. I ran outside thinking that the roof had exploded off. Good times.

Lived on Sycamore Dr. behind what was then Delmont Village, off Plank Rd. in the 60s. All white. Almost all the folks were working at the plants on the river as was my dad.

If there was ever any crime in our neighborhood no one heard of it.

What was the crime rate in North BR then, I wonder?

Probably low like in most white communities.

Not high like it is now in that area.

Yeah but that's just because of white privilege and confederate statues.

Scotlandville, Valley Park, Eden Park, Swart, The Bottoms, and pockets in North Baton Rouge. NBR didn't become completely black until the early 1980's when the last of the white folks finally moved out.
