Sounds like Ford is cutting production on several of its most popular vehicles, so I think it’s going to be a while. I heard about a dealership, though I don’t remember which brand, that is about to run out of new vehicles (which also means fewer used vehicles coming in) and they think it may be September before they get another decent shipment in.

A good bit of cars are sold before they hit the lot. I have a couple friends who sell cars. They dont have much product to work with, and what they do have goes quickly. They thinking Christmas at the earliest.

It's basically unprecedented right now.
So who really knows.

As with most industries, longer than I think people are expecting. I think we are looking at H2 2023 and potentially early 2024 until supply chains are actually getting back to standard operations.

Things are wayyyy more messed up globally with supply chains than consumers realize.

Wonder what effect this has from the merchant side. Are they prospering, losing, or maintaining with limited supply but rising prices?

Are you one of those One Nation Policy lovers or do you not know the difference between the PRC and ROC?

I bought a car last July, it flooded in May but is still running. Insurance totaled it out & is giving me ACV- which is more than I even bought the car for.

So if you can find a new vehicle you want, trading in a used vehicle is catching top dollar in the current market. It’s insane.

You think they are discounting those new cars that they can hardly get?

Drove by Richards Honda today. They had maybe 15-20 used vehicles and maybe 5 new ones on the entire lot. Shits going to hit the fan for these dealerships when they have no product to sell, and light bills to pay. It’s a bad situation all around.

Yes, a bit anyway. I have bought 2 new Toyotas in the last 6 weeks, and on one I got $1500 from the dealer plus the Toyota $1000 incentive, and on the other got $1000 off.

I do agree, they aren't negotiating much because they can sell it rather quickly, but they still want the first sale that comes along it seems. This was 2 different dealerships.

They are not known as dealerships but stealerships for nothing. They will find something to sell. Even though it appears they make a majority of their money on the sales of new vehicles, most of their money actually comes on the back end of maintenance and warranty work. The ones that have their own body shop can also make bank with insurance work. The body shop insurance work and pricing model can be as complicated and crazy as medical insurance.

I have a feeling that is why some insurance companies have opted to total vehicles easier than to have to deal with body shops and rental coverage if you have it.

Also, just because they do not have inventory on the lot doesn’t mean they are not still selling. Like someone posted, inventory may be already sold before it gets there. Think of going to a furniture store like Rooms to Go. They have a showroom, but good luck getting your furniture today. More than likely it is at their regional warehouse, which if you are in the central Gulf coast, the closest one is in Slidell. They will deliver from there and not the store a few days later depending on their inventory.

The same supply chain can apply for cars.

It can even help some dealerships in areas where you have a dreaded inventory tax.

The only thing is that as Americans we are so used to going to a car lot and getting that instant gratification by buying something and driving it off the lot. But that is changing, just look at how you have to buy a new Tesla. It is the same process of buying then waiting.
