When will BR just admit that CATS is a total failure and always will be.

What a surprise, CATS may have violated state laws, fails to collect $150,000 in revenue. Your tax dollars at work BR.

I don't know anyone that thinks of CATS as anything else besides a massive failure/clusterfrick.

CATS is what it is. An underused system utilized almost entirely by the poor, and funded almost entirely by the middle-class to wealthy property owners of BR who just got a substantial increase in their propery taxes voted FOR primarily by those who pay little to no propery taxes.

I don't ride buses, but I suspect you pay when you get on. If someone doesn't pay, why would they let them on?

This is what you get when you let the inmates run the asylum

I've gotten on a CATS bus without flashing my LSUID or paying at all. I don't recall anyone paying to ride the handful of times I actually rode those buses.

ETA- if I am allowed to stereotype, I'll say that some people looked way more like 30-60 year old bums than LSU students.

They have a dedicated tax stream going to CATS. Could the city hire a private company to handle that for them like LSU did?

CATS lost the lucrative LSU contract because they were a poor service provider. They suck at providing the service that they exist to perform.

Baton Rouge needs public transit.....they don't need CATS.

It's one of two reasons I can understand supporters of St. George.

Makes too much sense to do that!

Baton Rouge would have to check with Austin before they would get rid of it.

Can guarantee you one way or another St. George will still pay something for CATS...it will be a deal behind closed doors!

Are you sure you weren't on the LSU buses that they contracted out from CATS a while back? I have been on the BR buses some and have never seen anyone just walk on.

It was Aug/Sept of 07, I got on a bus at Highland near the north gates which took me to the Government St Bus Depot, since I didn't quite understand how the bus lines worked (and was stranded on campus with still-passed-out friends after being dropped off by someone I didn't really know...I was trying to make it back to one of the Nicholson complexes). I cannot say with certainty that it was not an LSU bus contracted out by CATS.

FWIW, a lot of the would-be St George is served by CATS yet did not vote on it in the recent election and did not see property taxes go up.
