When using a trucking service for heavy equipment delivery, can you meet halfway?

Trying to purchase something from Massachusetts and have it delivered to my house but the cost is crazy. Do hotshot drivers allow to meet up at a closer place if it’s discussed beforehand for a cheaper price?

Freight delivery to a residential address is always much higher in cost.
Use a friend's business address for delivery or use the trucking company's closest terminal for delivery.
Not sure what you are purchasing, but doing it this way will save somewhere around 35-50% freight cost, something like that.

Purchasing a specific type of lawn mower. Trying to figure out the best way to do it. Contacted freight services and have a quote for 1550$ so far. Was thinking of hotshot or wondering if someone had a better idea. Every time I did it before, I got things shipped direct to me. Never this far from where it’s coming from though.

How big is it? 3000-3500 should do it, if it’s small enough and you have a little time they should be able to run something else with it for 500 - 1000 less depending on size. Residential shouldn’t matter much, they are loading and unloading on their ramps anyways so no difference where unless you are out in the sticks

It’s about 1700 pounds. Only paying 2500 for it so don’t want to pay the same amount to ship it but 1550 just seems high.

I was thinking mini excavator or something. If it’s a mower, assuming it’s pretty small and your around NO that’s not a terrible price, but I think you might be able to get around .85/mile

Must be a huge lawnmower. If it can't go on a carrier like R&L, which means that is a flat bed truck delivery you need to find a business near you that is willing to accept it.
Sounds like you have a big enough trailer to pickup so I would find a business that is willing to accept the mower. Doesn't cost the company anything to accept the delivery, so I would try that.

How do I go about meeting up say at a midway point? Like say maybe Tennessee? Is this allowed or are the meet up dots that this is allowed? Just trying to save if I can.

Is the company that sold you the mower using their own freight company? If so, most assuredly they are adding a couple hundred bucks over the actual freight cost. Find your own trucking company.
Plus trucking will deliver to anywhere you want. Make sure it's a business address.

They deliver to job sites all the time. Theyll have a bill of lading for you to sign off. So meeting shouldn’t be a problem. Arrange delivery either near a city or along an interstate, that’s gonna help the most as far as saving money

I haven’t spoken to the people trying to sell yet. Hell, it may be sold but it was just posted. I was thinking if possible to meet like at a rest area if that would be ok. Just never did before or who I would need to speak to to get it done. Thanks. May ask more questions as I know more info.

I too am an absolutely hopeless cheapskate, so I would entertain the idea of driving it here myself.

Seems about right, I order supplies for my job and freight for about 1000 pounds usually runs about $600 for Dallas to New Orleans. shite costs almost as much to ship as the stuff being bought.

Sometimes it’s just no meant to be, Joe. If you want that specific mower ~1600 miles away from LA, then it’s gonna cost you. The price quoted seems within reason.

It’s a greens mower. Gives the grass a better look when cut. Instead of using a regular lawn mower with blades, this cuts like a pair of scissors. A rotary mower cuts the grass but damages it when it cuts.
