Sounds like your friend is stupid.

I'd stop hanging around with him, but thanks for the cool story.

I don't think that the term "nervous breakdown" is even relevant anymore. His behavior could have been caused by a variety of things.

By "nervous breakdown", you mean he acted like a huge pussy?

Yes. He refuses to get but desperately needs Xanax

Panic/anxiety attacks are no joke. Those lucky enough to not ever have one should count their blessings. Your body randomly starts pumping insane amounts of adrenaline, causing your "flight or fight" mechanism to trigger.

Have we ruled out the fact that his night of drinking may have also included blowing one and/or multiple guys? Otherwise, I can't see why there would be a ton of shame the night after drinking with buds

While we were camping in Costa Rica a few years ago, we discovered a fer-de-lance casually chilling in the shade of our cooler. A Costa Rican guide earlier in the day had told us to keep on the lookout for them, as they are the deadliest snakes in Costa Rica and run-ins with them are common.
We were able to get rid of it without much trouble, but sure enough, another one popped up a few hours later, chilling in the lining of my friend's tent. Being deathly scared of snakes (unbeknownst to us before we even started the trip) our friend breaks down in a complete-loss-of-muscle-control fashion. She was weeping and shaking like a crazy person, and she started to believe there was a snake in EVERY corner of her bag, her tent, and her clothes. We all eventually had to go to sleep in one tent, with her in the middle, just so she would feel safe.
I'm no fan of snakes, but I had no idea the extent certain phobias have on some people. Needless to say, we were all a little peeved she agreed to go camping with us in Central America.

Secretary at work had a history of mild mental instability. She flipped out one day during a normal conversation with the big boss. Yelling and crying ensued after which she informed the boss he was a chickenshit mfer. I found an escape route and exited that part of the building.
She took about 6 months of leave time and returned to work in a different department.

I think you are being too general. Ive seen people panic in a situation, Ive seen people stressed out and just suddenly "im done with this shite" and just leave whatever they were doing where it was at and had to just get away. Ive had anxiety attacks which is scary. Your friend just sounds like a spoiled prick.

True that. I spent a miserable Mardi Gras day in the quarter when I was in college. I suffered multiple panic attacks and had to just sit down on a curb a few times to try to regain control. I, like OP friend, had drunk heavily the night before.

My anxiety is through the roof the day after drinking.

My friend gets very anxious the day after drinking. On spring break in college he had a nervous breakdown in Destin and said he had to go home. Kept pacing around the room and just left. Drove to his parents in Memphis on the last day instead of just waiting 24 hours to leave with us to Knoxville. Destin to Memphis to Knoxville is quite the stretch
That's pretty similar to something I did actually, except mine wasn't as drastic. After 6 days of nonstop drinking in Panama City beach during spring break, I got overwhelmed with agony and had to leave. Instead of waiting one more day to ride home with the friend I rode there with, I took a taxi to the airport and then rented a car to drive back to Louisiana.

First time it happened I was pretty young and thought my friend was just being weak. Next time I saw him, I told him not to try to have another panic attack.
And he did. Knew then I was an a-hole and registered for my TD account

Good god, Xanax is not the answer. It's a temporary band aid and is a highly addictive and abused drug. He needs to see a mental health professional who can help him with what is probably panic disorder. SSRI's (like Prozac) are very helpful to some people, but drugs alone won't help...

Some people know how to use prescriptions without abusing them. My brother has had a klonopin prescription for a couple of years and only uses it sparingly

One of my buddies and his now ex-girlfriend broke up during our senior year. He used to have a meltdown and start crying, freaking out, throwing punches at his best friends for no reason, yell and scream, etc. pretty much everytime he saw her. We went to a real small school so it happened every day and even got to the point where it would happen multiple times a day. Eventually the whole school would talk about it and I still joke about it with anyone that went there. Thank god we graduated and went off to school. He still is weird around her over 5 years later. She was a slut before and after they started dating so that probably didn't help.
