Stopped at a local Ford dealership yesterday...just looking around not actively shopping. The least expensive F150 with leather had a sticker price of $58,000. Jesus F Christ. Thought maybe the dealer was out of line so I went to the GMC dealership up the road and pretty much the same price for the Sierra. How the frick do they sell so many at that price point? Must be a lot of truck-poor folks driving around because I see new trucks everywhere. Any of you baws bought a 2017? What did you end up paying? I've got a 2013 Silverado that I bought in 2015 for $28k, looking to upgrade but after yesterday I might just hang on to her.

That's your first problem.

I got my Tundra at a damn good price. Most reliable truck I've owned.

So they had nothing but 2wd Platinums and King Ranches with Tech packages on the lot?

You must go to the fancy dealerships.

American poors will spend for cars. Credit is subsidized. As long as people keep feeding the monster prices will only go up. Thst is until 2008 happens again which is only a matter of time.

I went through the same thing earlier this year. Ended up getting a 2012 Silverado for $22k but went through the same thing. I make pretty good money and the wife works as well, but there's no way I'm getting a $50k truck just on principle.

As long as there are people making $30k a year willing to make $800 a month truck notes, they're not getting any cheaper.

If they are smart, equity.

If they are dumb, 84 month truck notes.

I don't understand what this means. Out of line for listing the MSRP like all other dealerships?

When banks began offering 20 year finance plans on trucks.

More $$$ = higher price

think college tuition.

The least expensive, with leather seats and sunroof, was a Lariat.

In 2015, when I bought mine, the F-150 Lariat (redesigned model) with some extra bells and whistles that I wanted, had a sticker price of $59K. I ended up getting it for substantially less than that, around $46K out the door.

Not cheap by any means. But it drives very well and I have been pleased with it thus far.

Right about when 72 month financing became a thing, they sell idiots on payments not total prices.

And yes to the other poster, when trucks became status symbols for soccer moms the prices shot up as well.

When the EPA demanded that they be made of expensive lightweight materials and feature 8 and 10 speed transmissions with cylinder deactivation and turbo engines.

Easy credit and long arse loan terms. Auto loan debt reached like $1.2 trillion last year...things are starting to look like the pre-2008 subprime lending days with home loans.

Also, I'd imagine cheap gas helps the demand for SUVs and trucks.

tl;dr - people be dumb
