Well to be fair, the people on my FB aren't worried about paying rent. They're all fairly well off families, but so was mine. Didn't mean I was getting an SNES system for Easter. That stuff was reserved for birthdays and Christmas and maybe an occasional just because.

And honestly, it probably wouldn't be a big issue if majority of those people giving kids those kind of gifts were also teaching them the value of those gifts. And that monetary possessions are just that, monetary.

But that seems to almost never be the case with the women we're talking about. They're usually the same parents who don't want to punish their kids because that'll mean saying no to them and actually having a teaching moment with their kid. They're those permissive parents who want to be their kid's friend and inevitably their kids end up immature as frick as an adult because they've never been told no.

I've been wondering the same thing. My ex gf in college invited me to her house for Easter one year. While driving there, she was like "Oh my gosh, my mom made you an awesome easter basket! I helped pick it out." I'm thinking "Ok cool, love candy and chocolate, can't wait." I got 2 Polos, a bottle of cologne, and a shite ton of candy. Probably $150-200 worth of shite. She got literally twice as much as me. I've still been shocked by this

Growing up, our Easter Baskets included traditional candy like jelly beans, Goldbrick eggs, Chocolate bunnies etc plus colored hard-boiled eggs and a stuffed animal like a bunny, lamb, chick etc.
We used to get all this stuff plus a couple of small, real gifts growing up. Sounds like your parents didn't love you enough

Maybe people just enjoy giving. What do you think the generation before you thought of your basket full of candy and stuffed animals?

My son got a new bat, sunglasses, 4 pairs of shorts, 4 shirts money and candy. My wife got something for all her nieces and nephews. I think it's rediculous.

I used to get a small amount of candy. It's bananas what some people get their kids.

I just got candy in an Easter basket. And I'm still in my 20's so it's not like this was ages ago.

Same here.
A select few of my friends got gifts when I was growing up and I even found it weird back then.

I did just receive a small bag of Nerd Ropes and Pecan Eggs though, and I have to say that I am now completely content.

I had no idea people got gifts for Easter till I had a kid.

Never heard of such a thing.

My daughter gets a few small gifts in her basket. It's something my wife does.

Easter is such a weird holiday.

10 or so years ago I recall reading an article about how companies were trying to start the tradition of "Easter gifts", so they could have a second black ink holiday. Seems to be working.

The irony, if you want to call it that, is that Easter is supposed to be the most important Christian holiday. But it got overtaken by all the glitz and commercialism of "Chri$tma$".

Neighbors knocked on our door at 630 last night and ran off. They had set up Easter eggs in our front yard for my three year old, super nice and out of the way for them.

I ran to the store last night and got them a basket for their theee kids with a Lego set for each of the boys and beauty and the beast, the real one not some 2014 bullshite, for their daughter.

Their kids are 10 8 and girl is maybe 5. Getting them just candy or something they'd already have seemed pointless, but wanted to show them it was appreciated and doing nice things can be rewarding.

It's the start of spring here. Nothing extravagant. This Easter gift thing is news to me
