I went to a few of the youth events. They had a weekend retreat for youth. Don't remember what it was called officially anymore. The were "teaching" is how to speak in tongues. It was literally tons of teenagers in a room speaking out loud being told to randomly spit out sounds. At the end, a huge Bonfire where people would throw their non Christian cd's and stuff into a fire. It was horrible. I did it for a friend who lost his brother (also in high school). I couldn't do it after that.

Pretty much this. I watched some of my family (uncles, cousins, etc) fall to this corrosive brand of theology. I have found that most of these people who are "fluent in tongues" are simply ignorant of the Bible. It's a shame that they are usually the most vocal of believers so the general population of non-believers get the jist that all Christians are all like this. Completely counter-productive to the Great Commission, the chief commandment of the New Testament.

I remember when I was finishing my time as undergraduate at SLU and a band of loonies came to the student union park area screaming about by attending a university you are giving into Satan. I also believe they said in their incoherent ranting and raving that masturbation is evil.

extreme evangelical "Christianity" that is somewhat common in that area. Calvary in Hammond used to be one, there are also a number of other small contingents of people that have sprung up smaller places of worship in that area.
it does seem like they go from church to church one gains popularity for awhile and starts to go down while another one pops up that they move to. From my knowledge(which is limited) it went hosanna->Harvest -> Eagle Crest and now there's probably a new one since that one. Luckily I went to catholic school and didn't associate with hardly anyone involved in these churches.

Lots of weirdos went to Harvest.
I know a few people who went there. They were constantly begging for you to go to youth camps hosted by the church. It was always just general knowledge of the average person to stay away within the last 10 years

Not saying good people didnt attend, but something was fishy

They are building their church on human emotion and weak-minded people, not the solidity of the Bible. A house built on shifting sand.

I just had a Christmas where I had to endure spending a few hours under the same roof as these loony family members. Every year it ends in some sort of debate about religion, and it's flat out taxing on the spirit.

The Hosanna church was crazy shite. My Dad knew the original pastor of the church that at site not sure what it was call before Hosanna. When he passed away his son Louis Lemonica took it over and they only had 15 members when all of that went down. I remember my dad talking about what a good man his dad was and how he must be rolling over in his grave. I have always wondered how someone can become so perverted and sick.

Yeah I don't think there was anything in Harvest like what happened in Hosanna. That type of thing is extremely rare. I know I was shocked that a place that close to my old stomping grounds was practice a form of religion that was that perverse.

Hell I went to vacation bible school there in the early 80s. It was a decent church. I was honestly shocked by the news, I had a child's vision of the place that carried over to adulthood, and then that news broke. It was one the greatest mindfricks of my adult life.
