What’s the single most useful/beneficial knife?

Spin-off from the Case/Buck thread. What would you consider to be the one, single most useful knife to own? Fixed or folding, serrated or straight, blade length, etc. Something you could carry daily, but also be able to shave kindling strips on occasion.
I usually carry a 3 1/2” straight edge, “modern Damascus steel” that was handmade by a friend when I’m doing stuff outdoors. I know it’s not the greatest, but it gets the job done and I enjoy knowing someone who made it.
If there was only one choice, what would it be?

I carry a Gerber Gear 22-48485 Paraframe Mini Pocket Knife, 2.2 Inch Fine Edge Blade, Stainless Steel.
I like it because its small but yet a sharp sturdy knife. $16

I’ve tried to carry a Swiss Army, but never really found any use for much other than the small knife/Flathead screw driver head, on the rare occasion. Also, the tweezers for a roach clip.

About 15 years ago, I carried one similar in design but I think it was made by Buck. Not 100% sure, but it was also half-serrated. Absolutely loved it and carried it for years but lost it at TSA when I forgot it in my inner jacket pocket. ??
How many have you been through, and what were the breaking points? I don’t mind getting them repaired, or replacing on occasion, but I’m not looking for a “every other year” purchase.

Kershaw leek for everyday carry. It has a great shape if you need to shank someone too.

The only time I carry a knife is backpacking. The rest of the time I am almost always near my house, vehicle or office so if I need tools I have them.
Backpacking I carry a relatively large Swiss Army knife and a folding saw. The saw is 100 times more useful than a knife in the woods unless you plan to be skinning game. The blade on the knife is large enough for most of the non-saw uses I have for a blade and the implements though rarely used are greatly appreciated when I need them. A Leatherman-type tool is also useful but my wife carries one of them in her pack.
It is just very rare I ever need a knife, if I need to cut something, outside of food, a knife is usually not the best tool for the job, a razor, Xacto knife or scissors are much more useful in my life.

I’m somewhat “familiar” with this one because the model is made in Oregon. How long have you daily-carried and any problems with the assist? What do you typically use it for, other than stealth shanks.

Didn't know that. I thought all their knives were made overseas now. Google agrees. Cool.

This is what I’d more assume to be that “all around” utility. Any notable concerns with yours or a workhorse?

I mean..absolute overall useful in anything is a 10/10.
Might not go over well if it’s strapped to my belt in a business meeting. There’s always a chance it would be cool, but probably not.

TOPS use mostly 1095 high carbon, which you can get a hell of a edge on. As far as workhorses, I’d probably say that ZT and Ravencrest OTF. Which use S30V stainless and D2 stainless

I have several and I have carried them for years. Honestly it is mostly on box opening duty. I have used it fishing and have occasionally used it for things like stripping wires. If I am going to be outdoors and need a heavier blade I carry a Kershaw blur. The only thing I don't like about the leek is sometimes the blade lock will slide while in your pocket and lock the blade when you are trying to open it one handed. You can take them off buy I never have. The speedsafe function is excellent.

This is what I’m trying to find, if it’s possible. Something that’s practical to carry daily, but durable enough to handle backpacking/outdoors. The difference in our backpacking is that I mostly camp in places where campfires are not allowed due to elevation/drought/runoff into alpine lake/etc. I’ll do a very very tiny pit fire on occasion but it’s nothing that I need to “saw”. However, I do need to sometimes “chop” small saplings, 2-4inches diameter for shelter/sunbreak.
I’ve carried all kinds of tools including a leatherman, but I’ve really never came across a situation where a strong 3 1/2-4 1/2 inch blade won’t work. I’ve just never been able to justify carrying all the possibilities if I could just have a bigger/stronger blade. Just my opinion though, because everyone has different situations.
Are there other instruments on it that you find useful? How big is the blade, and have you ever found the scissors useful?
eta: punctuations corrected.

Ahhh. I swapped back and forth between boards a couple of times and then I started googling about it, then I just came back and posted. Can request move to OB if wrong place.
I was wondering when that would be mentioned. Definitely useful, 8.5/10.
eta: definitively to definitely
