When you have a real life problem

Can we agree that its "you should really pray about it" ? Why say anything at all. Or tell them to go sit in a room and think extra hard

I just have a hard time believing anyone ever resolved a complex life issue by "praying about it". Isn't that the same thing as thinking?

Guess it just depends on your beliefs really. Myself.....it wouldn't offend me if someone suggested prayer to me.

Sometimes we feel like we have to say something when a family/friend is struggling...sometimes it might have just been better to say "I'm sorry you are having to deal with this, I wish I knew what more to say to help"

Not as bad as "prayers sent" or "I'll pray for you".

Oh really? So you aren't going to do shite?

That is actually the perfect thing to say if you have no real advice to offer

I have, but I wouldn't expect someone without the same faith that I have to do that. It's also not very condescending at all if someone is being genuine.

Saying some form of "deal with it" as if to say your problems are nothing compared to mine would be far more condescending. But let's be honest, you aren't actually interested in condescending advice, you just wanted a reason to rant about someone trying to cram Jesus down your throat.

Don't apologize for shite that isn't your fault and has nothing to do with you.

I hate when people say, "Sorry for your loss"

Just extend condolences and be cool

Well since we're being honest, youre wrong as shite. Yeah last week i was asking someone a question about a complicated legal dilemma I'm dealing with. My brain was taxed and I asked a friend. She told me I should really ask god what I should do about it. an argument ensued

Then I read someone say it on here after somebody asked for marital advice

Just tell someone to go shake a magic 8 ball if you dont have anything intelligent to say

I woulda choked that person. Kudos to you for restraint.

Actually - The most condescending thing a person can do is try to tell you about some problem of their own that they seem to think trumps yours. I've never had a friend do this to me...but I've seen people my friends call friends do it.

spelling fix

Either you believe in God or you don't. You obviously don't so you should at least know that people that say that are being the least thing from condescending, THEY believe and think it will help you.

It's their nice way of saying they don't give a shite. I'm sure you have a phrase you use also.

To be fair, you asked for it. You asked for advice and they gave you their advice. Just because you didn't like it doesn't make them an idiot. Typically when I ask for advice, I prepare myself to hear something I might not like.

What I believe is irrelevant. No need to be a crybaby fig about it. Even religious people possess problem solving abilities I assume. Its a lazy arse answer at best

What could possibly be the outcome of a prayer. God gonna send a pigeon to shite on your windshield and spell out the answer?

Normally when an adult asks for advice it means they have thought it through and come to an impasse

It's not advice. Prayer is not a rational response to real life issues. If it were thered be no lawyers, psychologists, or consultants

If you have faith prayer is very much a valid way of coping. It doesn't mean you pray and then just sit and wait for something to happen.
