I imagine at their genesis they didn't envision themselves as traffic cops preying on citizens for revenue. One would think they would be out investigating major crimes and practicing oversight on the local boys.

thats actually an excellent question
remember, they also oversee video poker, which is more of an oversight and regulatory function than it is crime-fighting

i realize its fiction, but in that movie "the departed", its the MASS state police doing the investigation, undercover ops, etc. in LA, the troopers seem to just give out tickets on the interstate

It was originally called the Louisiana Highway Patrol, so I'm pretty sure that's exactly what they envisioned themselves doing.

Most would probably prefer to cruise the highways and interstates giving various ne'er do wells, assholes and noncompliants the business end of a billyclub but those goddamn cameras are everywhere, man.

I got a speeding ticket on Fathers Day. Three weeks later and it's still not in the system. I just want to pay it and get it over with. Can't even do that.

Get paid a lot and enforce traffic issues most the time. Tell him to do his job and he could say I am. Hahah
