Montgomery: if that counts as a city,

East Houston/pasadena: basically a chemical plant/refinery with couple neighborhoods in it.

Baltimore: been ages since i've been there but it was trashy as frick

Obviously certain boroughs like Brooklyn and Queens are not going to be as nice as Manhattan

1 city that shocked me, when it came to being dirty was. Fort Lauderdale. There were million dollar homes and paper and trash all over roads, parking lots, etc.

Worst I have viewed was east at.louis, illànoy. Dogs run in packs like put in the wild. It's a cess pool of shitty.

Everyone says Detroit has made a comeback and the downtown is actually nice now. Is that true?

I was there visiting my brother..appx 1986. I remember thinking how clean it was and all the flowers. But... Lunacy took over and 35+ yrs later.. Your assessment is true ( family has moved away but still visit and comment about the condition)

Atlanta felt much cleaner in the 1990s than they do today

It's actually the other way around.

You couldn't walk in most of Downtown Atlanta in the late 80's-90's due to the fear of having your throat slit, having panhandlers hassle you, etc, now downtown is very safe and clean. Yes, there are still some neighborhoods in Atlanta that are still seedy, but they are few and far between.

Pittsburgh was surprisingly clean

I may be biased b/c Pittsburgh is home but you are right. It is a beautiful, pictureresque town.

I'd put the Hill District up against the worst neighborhoods from St. Louis, Cleveland, Cincy, or Detroit.

This is true. The show Hill Street Blues was based on the crime in that neighborhood.

But they also have a huge variety of older middle class neighborhoods that have neither gentrified into expensive housing nor have declined into total crap

Yep. Squirrel Hill especially stands out.

Not even close - New Orleans. I came to that conclusion on a business trip to that STD infested petri dish town. In particular when my entourage decided to walk to Pat's (is that dungeon still in bidness) to partake of their Hurricane like alcoholic drink. It was then I saw it - a severly emaciated bikini clad woman (somethings cannot be unseen) hanging out (literally) the door of a dimly lit bar. Honestly she looked like an example of a methhead whore hoping to snare a passerby for a 'trick'

My life journey has taken me to many big cities in America, but without a doubt NOLA is an absolute dump.

That was near 35 years ago. Apparently it's gotten worse (much worst) since then. That's unfortunate because I hoped to see the D-Day Museum someday. Excluding the frightening experience of dodging bullets on the way to the entrance to the museum - thank you.

Los Angeles by far.

Everything about the city is shitty. Their “beaches” are full of trash and pigeons. Even the touristy areas are fricking gross. I’ll never forget having to step over junkies with my kid walking down the Hollywood walk of fame.
