The president seems to want to refer to the Muslim terrorists as ISIL instead of ISIS. Is it some sort of kinder, gentler reference to mass murderers?

They go by several names, so we are allowed to bomb them once for each name.

After further research, I think I've found the answer. ISIS doesn't include the elimination of Israel, ISIL does. Thus the president's use of ISIL instead of ISIS.

Makes sense now.

Obama has to include Israel as a bad guy. He hates them, so ISIL it is for him.

The AP's explanation:

quote:

In Arabic, the group is known as Al-Dawla Al-Islamiya fi al-Iraq wa al-Sham, or the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham. The term “al-Sham” refers to a region stretching from southern Turkey through Syria to Egypt (also including Lebanon, Israel, the Palestinian territories and Jordan). The group’s stated goal is to restore an Islamic state, or caliphate, in this entire area.

The standard English term for this broad territory is “the Levant.” Therefore, AP’s translation of the group’s name is the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL.

Speaking of which, I cant wait for ISIS and the mujahedeen/Taliban in Afghanistan to start blasting away at each other. I'll start the betting line at ISIS +7.
