My first boss told me 90% of the job is just showing up on time

20 years later, I have pretty much outlasted everybody by just putting my head down and staying in the background and showing up

Don't tell a woman you love her on paper and don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Bring more intelligent and self aware than 90% if the people you encounter on a daily basis. Sprinkle in some patience for the other 10%, everything will by fine.

Especially being able to word “being” properly.

So you must be one of the 90%.

Been at the same job for 32 years, pretty much how things are for me now. Show up on time, don’t call in, keep a low profile, take home a decent check. I hope to be done in 9 years…. It aggravates my director because I usually don’t get involved in department activities unless required. She’s always asking me to do more, so I give her the old, I’ll look into it…

Realizing that most people don't know what the frick they're doing. It's a game changer

Summer after graduating high school, one of my friends’ dad told us:

“Guys, y’all are all about to leave town and go out in the world. You are going to be shocked how low average actually is. Do better than that and you’ll be fine.”

There’s a whole lot of intelligent people out there who never amounted to doodly squat.

Intelligence easily overcomes discipline.

That's why gifted kids are notoriously lazy (and till out-perform their hard-working, but less intelligent competition).

Like, I've literally lived this life and at a Christmas party this past weekend a few old friends and I had a conversation about how we all look to find the easy way to do anything, and how that's called efficiency when you grow up

There's a whole lot of who don't amount to diddly squat, too.

Intelligence doesn't [i]guarantee
anything, just like any other "cheat code".

The big thing is that you can't develop apex intelligence. You can work on discipline or health or sleeping or patience or focus. Those are skills that anyone can learn. Intelligence has a genetic-biological limit.

If you’re the most naturally intelligent person in the room and you’re unwilling to work, you will not be successful.
