We were having a birthday party for our 4 year old daughter and my mother-in-law walked next door and petted a little dog that was tied up to a tree. Next thing we know the guy comes out and starts chewing out my family and cussing us out saying we were trespassing. Then the guy starts calling out some of my family members trying to pick a fight with them and wouldn't shut up. This dragged out for 15 minutes with him being right on the property line chewing out my family members while there are bunch of kids in the yard for the birthday party. We called the cops and had them deal with the situation. I just don't know why people spaz out and don't respect little kids being around. And yes, my mother-in-law apologized right at the beginning when he first came out. But he just kept going on and on and trying to fight with three of my guests

Your MIL doesn't like you and tried to get you in a pinch. She'll do it again cause she doesn't like you. You're screwed.

Shoulda whipped the neighbors arse too FWIW.

So your neighbor had their dog tied up in their front yard? Why?

So you think I should tell a whole group of people to all pack up and go inside the house? Youre nuts

I would have just shut the door on him mid-sentence and have gone about my day.

Is he still mad that you didn't thank him for helping you take the tires off of your house?

I would have let him fight my MIL.

On a serious note, your neighbor sounds like a pos. You should have embarrassed him in front of everyone. Children included.

"But what about the kids?!!" Where have I heard this tactic before?

You could shorten it all to just 'My mil was trespassing and my neighbor wasn't happy about it deservingly so'

Yeah, the mother in law shouldn't have walked over.

Some people get touchy about you petting their animals without permission. Maybe the dog was tied up because it had acted out before? Maybe it has bitten someone in the past, and that's what made the neighbor so jumpy.

Yeah the neighbor could have acted better...but the MIL is also at fault in this.
