re: What would you do if your ex did this?

I'm kind of torn on cases like this. On one hand I see him as a deadbeat since they mutually agreed to have this kid and at one point was actually married to the OP. He should pay up.
On the other hand I see child support payments being forcibly taken from men who were not ever married and did not have any choice in the woman's decision to keep the baby as complete and total bullshite when women can abort their responsibilities with a minor surgical procedure without consent from the father. Since men have no reproductive rights they should have no reproductive responsibilities either.
That's my explanation of being reluctant to automatically side with the mother on issues like this. The other reason is that I think this is dirty laundry that should not be aired in public or on a web forum. Hire a lawyer and keep this off the inter-webs. The OP may be a pleasant person but this thread is not a very positive reflection of her character.

I took him back to court because he wasn't taking care of the things we agreed on. We agreed to split the tuition plus 600$(child support amt from divorce in 2001 ). After I had to pay his half of the tuition last school year that was it. He makes alot more than I do. Child support increased to $2000 a month.
So he owes you around $30,000 a year for a college age kid? Your kid couldn't get TOPS? Doesn't the child support end after the kid turns 19?
The math on that means he owes you $24,000 out of around a $69K a year income (35%) which is pulled before taxes. Then he has to pay taxes on $69k a year income. Just saying, if my kid was 18...I'd roll too.

The kid is 16 and is a junior in high school.
That said, I'm married, husband has a good income, I work part time so that I can take care of everything else. And I don't have a maid! My mom was a single mom for a while and eventually remarried and I seem to recall doing HOUSEWORK.
But yes, the dad should pay what he owes ... and the courts do set that amount ... but if he doesn't do what you legally can to track him down but in the meantime, cut things like a maid and an iPhone out!

That's right. Thank you. Very nice coming home to a clean house after a long day of work...

Can a lawyer file a malpractice complaint without permission or signature (Posted on 2/16/14 at 8:07 pm to Motorboat)
The lawyer I hired was for an increase in child support because I was put on a 3 yr disability due to chemo! He knew about my medical history and he heard the doctor had malpractice suits !
I'm not trolling. This does not compute. Gets child support increased because disabled. Goes to work.

Deadbeat dads are scum.

You have an inordinate amount of legal troubles. First, your mothers insurance premiums were increased and you needed to know what to do about it. Then your son had a warrant out against him and you needed to know how to remove his name from court papers. Now your worthless ex husband has allegedly stopped paying child support.
Your life either really sucks, or you're the old, ugly Paige of legal attention whoring.

Kid is 17 now, based on ticket thread. 17 when she asks for more money, also. Support checks going away soon.
