What would the OT have done?

The wife started a new job on Monday. She went to a different location, from her office, this morning for a meeting.
When she gets back to her office her supervisor tells her the receptionist has something for her. She opens it and it's a pay-roll check for $2316. She asks me what she should do. I told her to tell her supervisor
They took the check and told her HR had her start date wrong. Kind of torn. If we would have kept it, they would have never known. Morally, I think that was the right thing to do. Fortune 300 company btw

I had a buddy who was overpaid. He never realized, but they found out. He had to pay it back

They probably would have figured it out eventually. Good thing you didn't keep it.

OT would have spent it on hookers and blow
I would like to think that I would have turned in check too

hell yeah you did the right thing. Morally right, and if they would have caught it at a later date, tben bye bye job.

Is this even a real question. Of course you notify the company that they messed up

This is the right ethical thing, and the smart thing.
If the company catches the error down the road, they would have had some questions if your wife had not reported the issue.
Pics of wife?

right thing completely, she may could have suggested they give her a cut of it since she was honest lol, been pushy just to see what'd they say

Doubt this was the case, but some of the companies around here will do things like that just to see what kind of person you are. She did the right thing.

Should have put that money to work first. Could have bought 1158 powerball tickets

You guys did the right thing IMO. Maybe as a result, karma will bring you a 3some.

I'd be pretty pissed to get shorted like that.

First of all for purely ethical reasons I wouldn't steal that money. It's right to report it. Second of all for pragmatic reasons I would not take the money. There's no guarantee that she gets away with it, and these kinds of things have a way to come back and bite you in the arse later on.

It's easier to hand the check back now than to spend the money and then have to pay it back later.
