Broadmoor, Sherwood Forest and Tara schools were good and the neighborhood was safe. I don't know why my brother still lives in our old house, I guess he doesn't like change. Prairieville is the new home for the middle an upper middle class, good schools, safe, etc.

I bought vinyl at Bert's on Sherwood.

ETA: If you bought from tall, skinny (and kind of ugly) Mr Charles, then that was my dad.

I inherited the ugly (and the skinny)

Do any of you recall the story about the light across the river from Baton Rouge? Story went something like if you stood looking at the light it would just stay there but if approached it, it would disappear. I never went to look at it but it was something that some guys claimed to see during my early years at LSU. Some people said that it was swamp gas and others claimed that it was something supernatural. The crap that you believed when you were young. Anybody remember Count Macabre(sp) and Doctor Shock who were on local TV stations?

Yes. I can't remember exactly where it was, but I went there with a girl one night and we saw it. Only it was getting closer (brighter). That night didn't go as planned.

Used to party at that lake until a friend fell from that swing. Almost killed her.

there used to be a rope swing tied to a huge tree on the river bank when I was at LSU(I'm sure there were more,) this sucker was up there, I was a freshman and it was a few days before school started and I went down there with my sister, her smoking hot sorostitute sister(no pics because I don't have them anymore,) and some dude that was a friend of theirs, it was a popular place and there were lots of people out there, it was a huge vertical drop and then it would swing you out over the river a decent distance, I was gauging how to do this and it seems that the key to success was to be able to hang on as the swing bottomed out of the vertical drop because of the deceleration, young stupid me was going to try and impress the hottie and said I was going to do it, my sister was like" I'll kick your arse if I see you trying to go up that tree!" just about that time a guy comes down that rope and wasn't able to hang on, SPLAT!!! no movement, no moaning, DOA, we left, I went down there by myself the next day and someone had cut the rope down, I'm sure it eventually went back up

Kafka: what about your vinyl??

Still have more than 200 albums but too lazy to get up every 20 minutes to change ‘em out. Lol.

Also still using a TEAC cassette deck I bought at New Generation circa ‘74-76.

Parents purchased a brand new house on the BLVD in 1977. I was 5 years old. We stayed there until 1994. I absolutely loved that house…and still do.

I was a teenager but we were all free range kids and had a blast. I almost died a few times but a hot older girl showed me here goods when I was barely 12 so it was worth it.

Of course, they tired to get us all killed with the pre-intergeneration bs is Valley Park Junior High in 76-77. Believe it or not the schools were actually good back then.

I can answer for the disco scene.
It was a hell of a lot of fun.

I was going to Fred’s before it was Fred’s (Fapp’s).
Zachry’s across the street was even better.

I lived in Tigerland for three years when it was at its peak.

Great times.

That was a great article. Interesting that the Stones were rehearsing and playing in the PMAC yet staying at the Royal Orleans in the French Quarter. The Stones didn't play New Orleans until 1978, which I always found weird since they loved the city so much and mentioned it in songs.

New Orleans was horseshite for major concerts during much of the 70's. Musicians loved the city and the small venues but there were no major arenas at the time, so large $$$ shows couldn't be had. The Superdome was still a few months away from opening when the Stones played the PMAC. Even after it opened, it took a while for folks to get the sound right at the Dome.

In the 1970’s Baton Rouge, Democrats didn’t kill other Democrats that often.
