The first few times we came to Denver (15 years ago), it was an adjustment just going from sea level to 5,000'. Between 10,000' and 16,000' a lot of people can get altitude sickness and it takes a while to adjust. It depends on the individual, but it might make for an unpleasant day.
By comparison, Vail, Breck, and Keystone all go from about 8-9Kft base up to 11-12Kft peak. Unless I have a day or so to adjust to 5000', I am wasted at 14 Kft. If you want to go to Mt Evans or even Pikes Peak, give yourslf time to acclimate.
