What specific projects could alleviate traffic in Baton Rouge and New Orleans?

....and also promote economic development in both areas?
I saw the Atlanta bridge repair thread and it reminded me of how woefully inept Louisiana is with highway and road infrastructure.

Close the Washington Street exit in Baton Rouge, eliminating the merge to one lane on I-10 past the New Bridge eastbound.

BR bypass to I-10. It could even be a toll road and eventually pay for itself.

Make all 18 wheelers self driving. Keep them out of the left lane.

New Orleans traffic isn't bad...
Fix the side streets / potholes in New Orleans and also make it where you are allowed to turn left fully through the neutral ground.

The estimates are that it would cost $20 million to relocate it and continue the right hand I-10 lane for another 400 yards.
That's a fairly small project that has been ignored for 25 years....and it would have significant, immediate impact on traffic.

Writing tickets for "blocking the box"

Something that makes it harder for 18 wheelers to flip over.

Yes, and the Dalrymple exit is right after. Both are lightly trafficked and should be combined. It makes no sense to have both of them. Its like im taking crazy pills.

Honestly, how does it make that much of a difference with the Dalrymple exit nearby?

It seemed like they built the Bluebonnet Extension and connected it to Coursey....then within a year the entirely new road was clogged every day at rush hour.
Same with Burbank. It was a two lane road until about 5 years ago, and it almost seems like it needs to be widened again in some areas.
What few projects the area gets are a day late and a dollar short. By the time they get around to adding another lane to I-10 between College and the bridge, they'll need to add another lane.

I think the plan is to change the Washington street exit to a left hand ramp before the merge point with I-10, then route the exiting traffic underneath the freeway for about 1/8th of mile.

I don't find traffic to be bad in New Orleans

I'd be happy with just adding a left turn lane at Nicholson/Brightside.

legalize homicide against people who cruise in the left lane.
