I just wear my Asics or New Balance. They're my running shoes and I don't feel like buying another pair just for the gym. It's bad enough I keep two pairs of running shoes at a time.

Football Cleats
Basketball Shoes
Dress Shoes
I've done all the above. Sandals weren't by choice and only a couple of times but I was willing to take the risk of injury. Usually get bitched out. Worst is dress shoes.
