I see my downvote buddy has arrived. I was starting to wonder if he (or she) was going to log on today.

Simple as that.

I was Submarine Force, went through special training where they weed out the weak, spent a total of one year of my life under water...was never in a combat zone. i guess i just had a "job", huh?

Our maintenance guys followed right behind us in Desert Storm. And while we were in massive M1A1's, they were in lightly armored 88's.

Without them doing what they did, we would not have been able to do what we did.

That looks like the terrain in/around 73 Easting...

Had a few missions up there, got "bit" by a ZSU there.

There are plenty of reservists/guardsmen that have seen a lot more combat than many active duty guys.

Good for you. That is actually more advanced. But if you can't admit that there are tons more soliders just hanging around stateside, that never did anything hard, then you are lying.

One of my regrets in life was not joining. Could have traveled, done awesome stuff like shoot guns, jump out of planes, etc, but I was a pussy. Would've had close to 20 years now if I would've joined. I jelly.

definitely not trying to stir this pot, nor disparage anyone who served, but there was a pretty good post a few weeks back from an enlisted army guy who talked about the dregs of society the he trained with, that were in because they had no where else to go, but refused to take advantage of the opportunity and better themselves/learn a vocation, or get education, I'm sure there's a fair amount of that, particularly around '07-'08 when unemployment was peaking

If they did a job that enabled the people on the front lines to do theirs then they get the same credit. I was in disbursing in the Navy, I'll bet you arse they 1st time your wife didn't receive the paycheck to pay the bills you would think I was important to you. That being said.

Whats your definition of hard?

There are many that stay stateside but have to leave their families, grow apart from loved ones back home, work long hours on holidays rain or shine.

Its still a commitment no matter which way you look at it. Theres no calling in sick or over sleeping and getting away with it.

Just bc not everyone has been to "Iraq", doesn't mean they don't contribute in their own way.

The gunner is the one crew member without a hatch. I'm sitting down in the bottom of the turret in front of the tank commander just to the right of the main gun....

Also, not everyone is cut out for combat and I understand that. If they still report for their duty and do their job well, then good for them. But learning to do tank maintenance state side isn't "serving". It is called having a job, like millions and millions of other Americans.

Well there are more POG's than Grunts. It takes up to 4 people to support someone in combat. Still in this joint force purple people who might do the simplest of jobs are getting put into shite that is not their primary training when deployed.
