What length of time do you consider a "normal" work/career life?

I'm talking about for regular folks, not for Money Board zillionaires.

In terms of years, with the way retirement looks, I’ll be glad to get out at 65.

As far as a day, I’m salary so I pull some 10s, some 6s, just depends. I definitely don’t sacrifice family time for work. At least not yet. I hope to never have to.

Not sure what's normal, but I'll work till I die, probably in my early to mod 60s.

I grew up in a very poor area (not me though) and was pretty surprised when I moved at how many parents of friends were already retired or starting to retire. this is when i was 14-22ish.

If I kept with the currently trajectory I’d easily be gone in 12 years at 55. I just don’t think I want to quit working. Why the hell else am I gonna do? I also don’t see my kids having the advantages i did. Everything is expensive. Pay greatly lags inflation. College is high as hell. I’d like to keep at it to get them well started in life.

That’s just profoundly sad to me.. You could travel.. volunteer .. play golf.. maybe even discover other hobbies youve never had time to explore.. i understand you wanting to continue working to help your kids, but i dont understand not having interests or activities that can replace work .

First job at 14 (part time) and retired at 66. 52 years of working and I never felt trapped or that I had to work.

I am 55. Pretty sure I can retire comfortably at 62. 34 years in my profession seems plenty.

7 years to go!
