I've always like foreign languages and my co-worker just mentioned his son is fluent in 4 languages (age 12) so I pose this to the OT: What language would you like to become fluent in?

It's a toss up between german and korean for me. Would definitely help with my communication skills at work and they both sound very unique.

Dutch is probably the easiest language for an English speaker to learn. There are tons of common words. You can look at a Dutch news article and often piece together what it's saying, even if you don't know the language.

ETA: I wonder if translation apps will make learning other languages a thing of the past, or will it make learning them easier and more common?

I'm trying to learn Spanish. Korean would be cool but I've heard it's very difficult and wouldn't be that practical

I downloaded one of them and frankly it made it very easy to hold up my phone to the german cafeteria woman when the machine took too much money from my card so she could read what happened. No way I would've been able to explain all that quickly with her understanding

If English was good enough for Jesus then it's good enough for me!

Russian

My mom speaks a little as it was another "household language" she grew up with along with English and Serbian.

I already speak passable Spanish.

Spanish

Would make my job sooo much easier.

I suck at learning languages though. Always struggled with it even when I had to take foreign languages in school.

I didn't show a whole lot of improvement in my Spanish until I started taking classes that interested me in Spanish.

A couple Spanish history classes followed by Spanish/Latin American Lit.

Practicing "kitchen Spanish" at my various employments and spending a week or 2 a year in Cabo a year also helped.
