Trying to plan a vacation this summer with the kids, age 10 and 11, and am looking for ideas. I want to do something different than Disney or Universal.

We used to do camping trips across the US when I was younger with my brothers. Always stayed at KOA campgrounds. Saw everything.

My favorite might have been the trip up 95 through Washington DC

West Virginia for hiking and rafting.

Northern New Mexico/Southern Colorado for off roading, hiking and horseback riding.

Colorado has better nightlife, obviously.

ETA:

I've also done 7 amusement parks in 10 days. Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Expensive as frick but rode 40 roller coasters.

I am going to assume you don't mean Hawaii or Alaska. Otherwise it would be Hawaii then Alaska.

In the lower 48, Yosemite is a fun trip.
