If the couple that wants to adopt a kid can't come up with 25K they don't need to be adopting kids.

So let me get this straight. If the couple didn't have fertility issues and couldn't come up with 25K all at once....it's totally fine that they decide to have kids?

But the couple that can't conceive on their own is just shite out of luck if they have stable jobs but just don't happen to have 25K lying around(like many average couples in the US)?

And today it was a young couple that attends her church asking for almost 25k to adopt two babies.

I guess kind of ok in a way because it's sort of charity, but there would be a whole host of other details I would need to know before donating to something like this in good conscience.

I'm going to guess that the two babies are twins or siblings

If they have stable jobs they can get a loan.

My girlfriend just said the same shite when I told her about this. That sucks it cost that much money, but, it's really not my or anyone else's problem. You should feel shamed for just begging for money. A couple we know was in the same spot and instead of just sticking their hands out they made t-shirts and jackets to help raise money for their adoption fees. That is way more respectable than begging.

Maybe.

Point is....it's not like this couple is wanting the money for a dream vacation or something. They just want to be able to be parents, like everyone else. While I agree that many of the gofundmes are ridiculous, I don't think having one to help raise money for adoption costs is a horrible thing. Chances are the people that donate to those are family and friends that are very aware of the couple's struggle to have children and they are more than glad to help out. I would donate to one if a friend of mine posted one for adoption fees.

I know a young couple that is getting married next month. They are requesting money for there honeymoon. BUT, they bought a house last year and been living together that long.

Don't you think the honeymoon is over by now?

I donated to one for a friend with a cat that needed surgery.

I would imagine those that put up the adoption gofundmes don't just sit back, spend crazy like they have no worries and expect to raise every penny through the site. They likely also do fundraisers themselves as well as work second jobs and save every bit they can. They likely just put the gofundme up in hopes that they can raise a little more with it.

I don't know pretty much anything about the adoption process, but on the face of it it doesn't make much sense to me that adopting is apparently so difficult. Sure, you don't want kids to go to bad homes. But you are never going to find a perfect home, and I'd imagine that even an imperfect home is better than group homes. I'd have to do a lot more research to see what all the money to adopt is going towards. One would think that adopting parents are providing a pretty big service to society, although I'm sure that I've heard of people taking advantage of the process.

Well do your fundraisers, work your second jobs, and save your money. When you have enough you can adopt your kids. Not some crazy idea there. Two people with good steady jobs plus second jobs can save that much in a year if they don't spend money on stupid shite and are frugal. Or like another poster said, get a loan. Stop begging for money.

Or maybe you could just ignore their site and not give

I do. Me not giving them money doesn't mean they shouldn't be shamed like someone begging for money on the side of the road because that's what they are doing. Probably even worse. Adopting kids isn't something you have to do to live, if you can't afford it there is absolutely no way someone else should be paying for it for you, unless it's your family and you don't need a website to get their help. Those adoption fees are ridiculous and it shouldn't cost that much to give a child a home. I'll be the first to say that. The price is the price though and if you can't afford it, and your family can't help you, well, then, sucks. Go to work, save money, so whatever you have to do and earn it yourself.

If you don't have at least 25k saved up then no you shouldn't be thinking kids. Adopted or any other kind.

Maybe they should start with some money management classes
