Having white skin in America. I’ve never done a thing wrong to society but somehow I’m looked upon as a horrible person just because I’m proud to wear this Caucasian skin on my body.

My opinion would be it has to be a police officer. These men and women never know what situations they’re going to face on a day to day basis, or if they’ll even make it home alive to their families. With the anti-police climate today in our country, it makes it even more difficult. With the split second decisions they have to make in the heat of the moment, if they don’t make the right call, it can have disastrous consequences.

Working with a dude who worked at an iron foundry for about a year. Says he worked the overnight shift, and it was miserable. He came out of the Marines, so I’m inclined to believe him.

Mortality-wise, I think it’s still firemen in the lead, although the politics of police work have got to suck—not to mention the hazards of dealing with the general public.

Any job requiring boring repetition.

I'd rather work my arse off than be bored 8 hours straight.

Ironically, those guys are usually pretty happy with their job. Not saying that's necessarily indicative of difficulty, as I'm sure it's a difficult job.

It's just that if you look at jobs with the highest suicide rates - it seems like construction is way up there. Again, not saying that makes it "difficult" but it's not an easy life either.

I know, TD:OT, loves construction/blue collar trade jobs, but it's hard on the body.

I see a lot of replies thinking a dangerous job is a difficult job. Being dangerous isn't what always makes it difficult. I'm an electrician and a FF/EMT. Both dangerous.

On average, there's a LODD every 3.5 days in the fire service, around 100/year not including 2001. Electrocution is one of the top 5 causes of on-the-job fatalities per OSHA.

Changing out a transformer by hand in tight quarters sucks. Pulling in a few hundred feet of copper conductors sucks.

The most difficult part of being a FF/EMT is when you get back to the station after not being able to anything despite your efforts. When everyone just sits down at the dining room table in silence until someone breaks it. Those are the difficult times you leave at the station and do your best to not take home with you.

My wife(no pics) is a former cop. She gets that part of it. She's a HS teacher now and, to some of you that have mentioned LEO's, says she couldn't be paid enough to go back to being a cop.
