Well Lafayette was Heaven in the 60's and earlier, so my thinking is go small, something that has only one McDonald's or None at all.

Love that area. Birmingham > Nashville
Mountain Brook is nice (as is Homewood). However, the Mountain Brook prices are mere pennies compared to Belle Meade.

River Oaks and West U in Houston
Park Cities and Preston Hollow in Dallas
Westlake in Austin
Are the nicest ones in Texas. Don't know enough about other areas except what I've heard

It's not a generalization, chief. Look at the stats. Those states always rank at the very top of every negative category ranked. They just take turns switching around on an annual basis when it comes to crime, poverty, education, etc.

Kiawah's nice, but when you're South of Broad walking by all those antebellum mansions and gambrel roof homes where the Revolutionary and Civil Wars were won and lost, it is breathtaking, even for someone who grew up only 100 miles away.

What about those rich areas in Florida where a lot of PGA golfers live?
Great weather, super wealthy area, beaches, boating, lots of hotties.

Can anyone mention a place beside Fairhope that doesn't cost at least 3 million to live there?

You can buy in West U for cheaper than 3 million but it's still really expensive.
The Woodlands
Sugar Land
Colleyville
Plano
Southlake
Are some of the nicer true suburbs in Texas that aren't expensive old money neighborhoods

your hate for Bellaire lets me know you are from west u. If so, given the age I assume you are at (25-27) we probably know the same people

Real estate in Uptown New Orleans is more expensive than Mountain Brook too and I wouldn't consider than a "nicer" neighborhood/city. While I agree Belle Meade is nicer, that's hardly a perfect gauge.
ETA: Ono Island gets my vote.

North Charleston is the place where the Mayor told the residents that the government can't and won't raise your children.

I'm not from West U Bellaire is nice it's just so close to some really shitty areas and I think West U is objectively nicer. Bellaire is probably the best value if you want to live close to the city with a family
I was more posting the outer nice suburbs
Boerne outside of SA is another one in TX that has some really nice areas and country clubs
