I'm still new here and haven't figured this out. What does down or up voting a post actually do? It doesn't move the thread up or down from what I can tell, so what is the point? I don't see the point of votes since (unlike reddit) they don't affect post placement -- and let's hope that never happens; the backchanneling that followed would make your head spin.

I never vote and would not care about it if they made one change: make all votes public. Many sites do this.
