Found a softcover book in our debris that I managed to save. It was soaked but I managed to separate the pages before they stuck. Now it was submerged in floodwater. Anything to worry about in terms of germs?

It's not worth it. Mold could start to grow. Get a new book.

If it is still wet, you can put it in the freezer. Some of the water will sublimate off.

Cover it in diesel. The diesel will sperry's from the water and get all the water out of the book.

Next, you need to burn off the diesel, so go ahead and put it in the yard and light it on fire.

Problem solved.

Thanks.

It's out of print and can't get another copy.

This was a locally published book. Already looked online.

You could possibly put it in the microwave for 3 or 4 seconds. Just enough to get some of the moisture out. To get the smell out you could put a sheet of fabric softener in the middle of the book or put it in a ziplock bag and put 1 or two sheets in there with it.

Or.. Instead of the microwave, use a blow drier. Also, if you can put it outside over night to let it air out, that might help. Maybe put it on a towel, set it down and fold the towel over the top just to keep anything from getting on it and just let it air out.

Unless you're a serious germaphobe, there's not much to worry about. Like OweO said, you can put fabric softener in it. If you see mold, you can lightly moisten a towel with bleach and rub the moldy spots. I've done that before. As long as you get it dry there's not much to worry about.

Burn it. It'll dry right out!
