Anytime you get into private universities, like University of St. Augustine, you will have to pay a considerable amount more. LSU-S and LSU-NO are good programs and much cheaper. You also have to consider your academic standing and situation going into school; i.e. where will you get in and when will you get in.
Also, CAPTE, has already, or is about to, make all DPT programs 3 years. When I went to USA, it was 2 years and 4 months so if you hustle, you have 8 months to make money and make up most of that difference in tuition. USA was the only school I applied to due to my prior affiliations with the program and alumni. Now, with the programs being 3 years, I would find it extremely difficult to choose USA over a public school.

Eh. St. Aug isn't terrible. It's a good program if you want to go into ortho and manual therapy. And the program being 6 months shorter because of no true summer break allows you to make up the cost difference in salary.
As with everything it's about what you get out of the program and how you handle yourself in the clinic and on rotations.

its ranked as the 355 PT school in the country. LSU in new orleans is ranked in the low 60s. Much higher cost in tuition as well as cost of living. This is very significant because you cant work in PT school.

Nothing wrong with the program. It is expensive though. I think all grads can sit for OCS certification test which is the orthopedic certification. Guy over on the soccer board graduated from there.
I guess you could always go ole miss and transfer to ummc in Jackson if you want to stay with one university.

LSU undergraduate is really good regardless of how they are ranked.
My daughter just graduated recently from LSU in PT. She is now at UNC and LSU has prepared her well. Better than many of her classmates were.
UNC is like in the top 10 Nationally.

it definitely get the job done. However, its like taking a road trip in a beat up car with no ac. Why not take a nicer ride for the trip that cost less money and gets you there safer and better prepped? When I went to PT school, everyone that I knew that applied the same time as me got into st. aug while completely getting denied at other schools. They love the OOS tuition.

Pa programs are usually shorter than dpt programs

I'm at OT student at Shreveport that considered pt many years ago.
If I'm not mistaken almost every pt program is doctoral now. I know that's what OT wants to do in the future (10 years or so)

I think you're missing the point. Most of us went to LSU undergrad here...its ranking compared to others is shite. But you still got a great education.

I ran the numbers...factoring in the extra 6 months you're in school at LSUHSC the cost difference is negligible. And St. Augustine apartments are way less than NOLA. Brand new 3BR in a safe area was less than $1000/mo.
And as I said earlier, I've seen below average PT's from St. Aug, and great ones as well. Same goes for LSUHSC. At the end of the day, working hard on your clinicals, passing your boards, and networking with the type of clinic you want gets you further than just graduating from a specific school.

tuition alone at st aug cost more than all cost at LSU in Shreveport or new orleans. I know this because i was accepted to all three programs and had the numbers in front of me. Its not even close.

How else do I need to explain it? The cost of tuition at St. Aug is higher. But when considering the length of the program and 6 months of additional income, and in our case starting 3 months earlier allowed for 9 months of income vs. LSUHSC. At that point it became nearly a wash in the cost.
Wife was accepted to New Orleans, St. Aug, and UTMB.

Very true about rent prices. I rented a house in St Aug Shores for me, wife, 2 kids for less than $1,000 per month.
FWIW, St Aug tuition has more than quadrupled since I was there. That might be a game changer if I were applying today.

I have not really heard of a "bad" PT school, public schools like LSU will be more competitive to get into vs places like St Aug.
I would apply to both private and state schools and see where/if you get accepted then decide
