I just watched a news segment about how a lot of school districts around the country are turning to 4 day school weeks.

What bothered me about the story is that it interviewed Karen looking liberal teachers talking about how this decision was sooooo needed because of the mental stress it takes on teachers. How teachers really need this. How this is going to benefit them (the teachers) because the job is sooooooo stressful

Give me a break. Not one single teacher said a single word about the students.

Never mind the fact that test scores are the lowest in this country’s history. HS kids can’t even read middle school level reading.

I never claimed to be a good student. But at least I could read when I was in High School.

Oh those poor teachers need this! Oh and I am sure those poor teachers will get paid for 5 days instead of 4.

So now parents are going to have to take off every Monday or hire a babysitter every Monday because teachers are too fricking lazy and stressed out to teach 5 days/week on top of all of their other holidays, fall, spring and summer breaks?

This country is fricking lost. It’s done.

Not sure if 4 day week is the answer, but the current schedule is shite for kids learning.

it's not the kids, it's the parents.

school day should be 9-5.

School days should be shorter, not longer. Schools should also have mandatory outside recess and PE.

Also, if students show lack of effort, parents should get in trouble. We need to incentivize kids giving a shite.

I also think schools should be closer to year round instead of August to May. Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer breaks should all be close to equal in terms of time off.

Seems fine to me. They waste a ton of time at school. Loads.

Kids need more Recess.

Less Recess = More socially awkward people.

They get fricking 3 months off in the Summer, and another month of Holidays during the school year. An 8 month work schedule, and now they need a 4 day week? How fragile are these people? What they really need is year round school, and for teachers to have to pass a bi-yearly competence exam.... pass or be fired. PERIOD.
The kids they are graduating can't read or do basic math... What a bunch of lazy, ineffective, whiners. Work year round like the rest of us, and do your damn jobs.

Kids spend far too much time in classrooms, in my opinion.

K-6 needs to be only a couple hours per day spent on the basics reading, writing and math, the rest of the day should be recess.

After 6th, slowly ratchet up the study hours and add in history, civics, etc.

School was never intended to teach your kids anything.

It was invented to get kids used to the monotony of factory work and showing up every day.

Quite a few Texas schools have implemented a 4 day school week. Their main reasoning is to attract teachers. Schools are having a hard time filling teaching positions so they offer a 4 day school week as a benefit.

School isn’t babysitting. Parents should be involved in their children education. This is why we are dropping in rankings because parents can’t be inconvenience. Watching your child should never be a reason involving schools. And students might do better getting more of a mental break. But the 4 day school day would extend the school day so the students aren’t missing any instruction

Do you think students learn less going to school for 4 10s instead of 5 8s?
