What generation did men stop carrying a pocket knife?

Seems like it was engrained early on in me that a man always has a pocket knife on him.

I’ll test some of the younger engineers I work with on occasion, when needed, by simply asking, “My hands are tied, can you cut this real quick with your pocket knife?” Just to recieve a blank stare in return. Then I’ll explain to them the importance of a man needing a pocket knife.

Was embarrassed the other day when I was bagging on one of the boys, and to set an example, walked up to a 50 year old co-worker and he gave me a blank stare as well when I asked what kind of pocket knife he had.

So I ask, is this more of a country thing, age thing, or what to always have a pocket knife on you?

It's a country bumpkin thing. Usually comes with a camo hat and a Confederate flag bumper sticker.

Or a brand new Tahoe and a Jason Aldean CD

I carry one daily. I have none of these, but can appreciate the most useful hand tool ever made.

ETA: I do have camo hats, my bad

I'm 33 years old, and I could probably count on one hand the number of times in my life that I've said "man, I really wish I had a pocket knife on me."

If I know I'll need a knife, that's when I carry one. There's no need to bring a pocket knife to my office every day.

I used to have a pocket knife years ago. I lost it, but never saw the need to get another one.

I always have one on me. Sometimes I will substitute a small multi-tool like a Gerber Dime or Leatherman Squirt.

I pretty much use it daily. Saves time having it always on. I did grow up in the country though.
